This position also assists the Head of CHSEQ in implementing lenders’ environmental and social action plan as part of KE’s Environmental & Social Technical CommitteeEducation:Bachelor of Engineering (any discipline) and Master’s in Environmental Engineering or Management,Knowledge:

Experience:Minimum 10 years of related experienceArea of Responsibilities:Environmental & Social Impact Assessment (Planning Phase)

  • Oversee the entire process from engaging consultant to baselining, scoping, consultations, draft review, and submission of final report to the respective Agency (EPAs) with mandatory documents.
  • Finalize presentations, represent KE in Personal & Public Hearings and Expert Committee Meetings, and provide response to queries raised by the public, experts and other stakeholders.
  • Follow-up for project clearance; Review and acceptance of approval conditions.
  • Participate in external events, conferences and legislation review meetings organized by EPAs.

Environmental & Social Management (Construction Phase)

  • Ensure compliance with approval conditions and site-specific Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP) during construction.
  • Oversee entire process from engaging consultant, trainings, compliance data reporting, site visits, review of draft, and submission of compliance reports as per required frequency to EPAs.
  • Review of EPA’s notices/ letters, represent KE in Personal Hearings and provide response to queries. Facilitate EPA officials in site visits to observe compliance status/ site restoration.
  • Finalize and submit ESMP Construction completion report with mandatory documents and undertaking, and acquire NOC for operation phase.

Environmental Monitoring (Operation Phase)

  • Ensure compliance with Sindh Environmental Quality Standards (SEQS) at KE power plants for priority parameters. Also ensure compliance with EPA’s NOC clauses related to operation phase.
  • Oversee the entire process from engaging labs, results analysis, review of draft, and timely submission of monitoring reports to EPA and plant management.
  • Review of EPA’s notices/ letters and submit response. Represent KE in Personal Hearings, provide response to their queries and facilitate EPA’s visit to the plants.

Environmental Sustainability Manual & Procedures

  • Review and update Environmental Sustainability Management System (ESMS) Manual in line with international standards and best practices.
  • Regularly review and update corporate environmental procedures, legal register and risk register.
  • Develop annual environmental objectives, provide technical assistance and implement ESMS in coordination with departmental heads in all BUs.
  • Facilitate BUs in managing their external environmental affairs and report to the regulators.

Environmental Trainings

  • Conduct Training Need Assessment (TNA) and develop an annual Environmental Training plan.
  • Review and finalize modules for the intended audience with exercises and assessment papers.
  • Finalize training report with analysis for dissemination among participants and respective Heads.
  • Review and approve content for awareness flyers/ campaigns/ annual reports/ external environmental awards.

Environmental Audits

  • Review and update environmental audit procedure & criteria in line with best practices.
  • Ensure independent and transparent audits in all business units, finalize mark sheets and ensure timely result preparation for each category.
  • Oversee internal & external Environmental Audits / Green Office/ ISO 14001 certification.
  • Validate environmental data for external reporting as per GRI Guidelines for Sustainability Report.
  • Review and finalize Carbon Footprint / GHG Calculation & Grid Emission Factor.

Environmental & Social Due Diligence

  • Ensure compliance with Contractual E&S Requirement for Local & International Lenders.
  • Review TORs for engaging Lender’s international Environmental & Social Consultants and evaluate Technical Proposals to conduct Environmental & Social Due Diligence (ESDD) studies.
  • Facilitate Lenders international E&S Consultants through data provision, meetings, site visits, debriefing, draft report review and implementation of E&S action plan.
  • Facilitate Supplementary Lenders Information Package (SLIP) preparation, approval from Lenders, compliance reporting as per regular frequency (as and when).
  • Ensure any additional requirement such as technical study/ assessment is timely prepared, and recommendations implemented.

People Development

  • KE wide capacity building on environment through awareness and trainings of trainers.
  • Assess training needs of team members and ensure parity with regards to learning and growth opportunities.
  • Team engagement through frequent feedback & career enhancement opportunities.
  • Oversee performance management and career planning of direct reports.
  • Create a conducive work environment to build and sustain an engaged and committed. environment team to achieve environmental objectives at organization level.
