Job description: The Lead Database Administrator (LDBA) leads on the creation and maintenance of the global IT/OT Database technical delivery roadmaps and provides input into the technical global strategy for the mission critical infrastructure. They with drive the operational cybersecurity capabilities and roadmaps globally across IT regarding database hosting and usage and ensure alignment with established standards such as NIST 800-82, ISA/IEC62443, CIS-20, and ISO27001. The LDBA will be the global lead on the solution design and delivery on all FDB complex database projects and initiatives. The role will have a high degree of influence over BAU database technology roadmaps, and you will be expected to navigate the organization across both IT & OT globally to ensure common ground and alignment. Because of the specialized nature of the role, it will be integral in not only enterprise database delivery and solutions, but also in the project estimation/delivery/management, vendor selection, outsourcing activities, transitioning to operations, and in ongoing dialogues with our key stakeholder in regard to database hosting and usage.You will be part of Global I&O team within the FDB IT Department but with Denmark as your site location. You will take a technical lead role together with other highly dedicated and skilled colleagues focused on the mission of ensuring a stable, efficient, and compliant IT service. This position will be lead role within the Infrastructure Engineer team with a focus on designing, building, deploying, and maintaining the FDB Global database infrastructure while leveraging the latest technology.The role is responsible for ensuring that IT database platforms are secure, reliable, backed up and always available. In addition, the role will also provide BAU technical governance on projects and solution design. The role is also responsible for the QoS regarding Infrastructure database services and will provide 4th level database support duties as required.Main Responsibilities:

  • Technical and design lead for the day-to-day support and availability of all FDB Global databases, this includes but is not limited to build, configure, tune, administer, and support database technologies and solutions.
  • Perform cross-functional, multidisciplinary technical oversight to include evaluation of project work, staff, methods, and associated procedures related to enterprise-level IT/OT database systems. Compile technology related documentation for GxP and critical IT database technologies. Participate in system validation and testing processes as required. Approve validation documentation together with relevant ITQ. Represent IT system in connection with audits and inspections. (30%)
  • Global lead in defining and translating architectural database designs into operational delivered solutions and services. (20%)
  • Responsible for leading the design and deployment of new database technologies ensuring that they integrate smoothly with existing systems and infrastructure. They ensure that all FDB polices, and procedures are followed and that all deployed systems meet the security frameworks in place. The are responsible for ensuring AIS metrics are defined and met prior to new system/service deployment. (20%)

Scope and Accountability:

  • Responsible for the Global database design principles and best practices
  • Perform regular database maintenance tasks, including monitoring database performance, optimizing database configurations, and implementing backup and recovery procedures.
  • Collaborate with other IT/OT teams to ensure proper integration of databases with other systems and applications.
  • Develop and implement database security policies and procedures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, NIS2).
  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of database structures, ensuring efficient storage, retrieval, and processing of data.
  • Conduct regular database performance tuning and optimization activities to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Plan and execute database upgrades, patches, and migrations, minimizing downtime and ensuring data integrity.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to database administration processes, procedures, and configurations.
  • Monitor database usage trends and forecast future database needs, collaborating with stakeholders to plan for database capacity and scalability.
  • Stay updated with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in database administration and recommend innovative solutions to improve system efficiency and performance.
  • Database technical lead on all Global projects within FDB

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science or Information Technology or relevant technical certifications
  • 7 yrs+ experience in an IT 3rd/ 4th line DBA position with proven track record in an enterprise IT infrastructure environment, or 5+ years’ experience of working in a biomedical IT service environment.
  • Any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background to deliver against role expectations.
  • Strong SQL expertise and solid understanding across several DBMS (MSSQL, Oracle, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and more…), including performance tuning and backup/restore best practices.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of DB Backup/Replication Technologies
  • In-depth technical knowledge of DB tuning
  • Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure)
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., SQL, PowerShell, Python) is preferred.
  • In depth knowledge of Infrastructure DB security and associated frameworks such as ISO27000
  • Solid business acumen and at-ease when engaging with senior leadership.
  • In depth experience of scripting and automation technologies
  • Experience of tracking emerging IT issues, strategies, roadmaps, patterns, and technologies over time to assess opportunities to enhance service delivery.
  • Adept at communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels, and across organizations, using architecture communication techniques.
  • Adept at gaining support from business and technical stakeholders for IT DB initiatives with medium/high levels of risk, impact, and complexity.

The Lead Database Administrator will work within the broader Digital Technologies organization to help drive IT/OT alignment from a technical and BAU perspective. In addition, the role is expected to have a broader reach outside traditional IT silos to build relationships. The role will interact with senior level stakeholders globally regarding technical delivery and any associated database requirements. Will be a technical lead on interacting with FDB vendors to ensure database solutions are secure and always meet the business requirements. Input in to external and internal audits in regard to tactical designs and debt.Your Application
