Reporting to the Manager, International and Global Health Office, The Coordinator is responsible to manage all activities of the Faculty of Medicine Global Health Program. These include three bursary programs, international electives, pre-departure training, post elective debriefing, the Global Health Concentration, the advisory committees, as well as developing and communicating academic and placement opportunities for medical trainees and faculty members. Finally, the incumbent collaborates with leadership in areas of strategic alignment and operational efficiency by creating proposals, developing critical paths and ensuring their successful implementation.In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- Manage and approve international electives for UGME and PGME trainees as dictated by the policy. Ensure all pre and post elective requirements are met. Consult with uOttawa Risk Management experts in cases where there are potential security risks. Record and track all international electives in a centralized database and produce statistics/reports as required.
- Provide advice to leadership on the Global Health strategy based on identified stakeholder needs and by completing regular environmental scans of current global health programs across Canada and worldwide. Contribute to the International and Global Health Office strategic discourse on organizational structure. Identify the priorities of the global health program and justify the need for additional human and financial resources.
- Design and deliver new programs and activities by developing project charters and critical paths, in collaboration with global health subject matter experts. Manage the implementation and evaluation of programs and introduce corrective measures to ensure a continuous high quality program delivery.
- Plan and organize all global health events, including journal club, pre-departure training, post elective debriefing, and special interest group events. This includes identifying the number of sessions required per year and the ideal timeline to reflect the academic year cycle. Identify topics of discussion and recruit subject matter expert in consultation with leadership.
- Manage the UGME Global Health Concentration and act as a student advisor. Monitor and evaluate the submission and frequency of student activities to ensure compliance of program requirements. Communicate to students when there is an identified lack of progress to offer corrective measures to ensure student success. Collaborate with committee members to establish solutions and implementation strategy for academic concerns and to identify learning opportunities. Collaborate with UGME academic advisors to ensure students receive appropriate credit for completion of program.
What you will bring:
- An undergraduate degree, preferably in the area of public or global health, international development or related discipline
- 3 to 5 years of experience in an academic medical environment with knowledge of global health related activities or in an NGO or government institution working within a global health or international development context.
- Experience working with community organizations and international partners.
- Knowledge and experience of project management principles, organizational efficiency and conflict resolution.
- Experience developing, interpreting and applying policies and procedures.
- Advanced skills using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) as student information systems, web-based curriculum tools, website maintenance tools and social media platforms.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to handle information with discretion and confidentiality.
- Bilingualism – French and English (spoken and written)
- Ability to manage multiple complex tasks and/or projects simultaneously while addressing and anticipating the needs of key stakeholders
- Sensitivity to cultural, social and political issues and context with an in-depth understanding of business protocols and cultural nuances
