Job description: JOB DESCRIPTIONBASIC INFORMATIONPosition NameLab TechnicianFunctionOperations & MaintenanceJob CodeDepartmentPlantSectionOperationsLocationPlant – DuqmReporting To (Functional Title)Senior Chemist EngineerNumber of Direct ReportsN/AROLE PURPOSETo ensure that all process requirements related to water-steam cycle chemistry, desalination plant chemistry, wastewater treatment process, as well as other design requirements, are all met to keep the contractual commitments of the Company, as well as improve the life-cycle of the assets installed and operated by Marafiq.ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Carrying out all the effective determinations and tests to ensure the process specific parameters are in line with Vendors’ recommendations, best industry practices and local laws and regulations.Sound knowledge about Lab equipment operation, results reading and interpretation of results.Sampling: Collect samples of raw water, treated water, cooling water, and wastewater at various points in the plant (e.g., intake, after treatment, and discharge).Chemical and Physical Analysis: Perform routine analysis of water quality parameters such as pH, turbidity, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), conductivity, hardness, alkalinity, chlorine levels, and residuals to ensure water meets required standards for safety and quality.Keep abreast and understand the regulatory requirements pertaining to environmental compliance, chemical used in the plant, MSDS, plant P&IDs, SOPs, Work instructions, as well as the emergency operation procedures and any other related documents, so as to ensure compliance with the standards and norms.
Raising concerns about Process upsets, reporting effectively to supervisory line and follow up for corrective actions undertaking. Inform the Operations Team in a swift and effective manner on any process disturbance.Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all laboratory tests, including test results, methods used, and equipment settings. These records are crucial for compliance, audits, and historical analysis.Reporting: Prepare regular reports summarizing test results, trends, and any deviations from standard operating conditions. Communicate any water quality issues or system performance problems to management, operations, and other relevant teams.Compliance Documentation: Ensure that all testing procedures, records, and results are in line with regulatory requirements and internal quality standards.
Be responsible for implementing Company HSE rules and regulations at his workplace.Adhere all the time at Company HSE rules and regulations, whether at his workplace or anywhere in the plant.
Continuous follow-up with Operations Team for the corrective and preventive actions suggested to restore any process upset.Interpret results of tests to establish optimum operational parameters for current operations process and to maintain the integrity of the plant over the longer term.
Maintain records of all consumables and chemicals used in the laboratory.Raise concerns to the Supervisory line with respect to replenishing the stock.Follow-up with Procurement dept. for purchase and site delivery of the requested chemicals and consumables;
Indicate corrective actions to adjust the process and follow up on the implementation of the corrective actions.Provide process related assistance to the Operations team on matters affecting plant processand performance in order to maximize yield as per the quality guidelines.
Maintain adequate stock of all chemical consumables (bulk and fine chemicals, glassware, etc.) dosing and testing equipment in the plant, to ensure timely availability and uninterrupted laboratory services.
Ensure that CIP data, procedures, observations, and lab results are accurately recorded. Organize and prepare technical documents, reports, findings, and presentations for management.Confirm the yearly third-party calibration of lab instruments as per the requirements to ensure that equipment is kept in a safe and efficient working conditions.
Contribute to the development and manage the communication and implementation of the section’s policies and procedures to ensure that all relevant procedural and legislative requirements are clearly communicated and duly fulfilled.
Contribute to the management of sectional compliance to all relevant health, safety and quality requirements, to guarantee employee safety and legislative compliance.Responsible of housekeeping at his area of work;
Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices considering ‘leading best practices’, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.COMMUNICATION CHANNELSInternalExternal
