With a strong track record in the Philippines, CIPFI focuses on biodiversity conservation, ecosystem-based adaptation, climate policy, financing, and technical assistance to various stakeholders in key biodiversity areas in the country.POSITION SUMMARY – This position is based in Quezon City, PhilippinesThe Knowledge Management Officer will coordinate and implement knowledge generation, communication, and advocacy activities of the TRANSCEND project of CI Philippines. Key tasks include:
- Co-create with the project team the development of knowledge materials from the project that are needed for capacity building.
- Developing and executing a comprehensive communications and advocacy strategy to promote project goals, activities, and achievements.
- Creating compelling content, including written materials, visual media, and digital campaigns, to effectively convey the project’s message.
- Raising awareness among diverse stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, NGOs, and the general public, about the project’s significance and impact.
- Facilitating engagement with the media, partners, and stakeholders to amplify project visibility and impact.
- Advocating community involvement to enhance conservation efforts and sustainability.
RESPONSIBILITIESThe Knowledge Management Officer will coordinate and implement the communication and advocacy aspects of the ridge-to-reef conservation project. The Knowledge Management Officer will:
- Coordinate with the project M&E to identify and develop knowledge products coming out from the implementation of the project.
- Take the lead in the development of an Advocacy and Communication Strategy with support from the Philippines Policy Senior Manager.
- Work collaboratively with relevant technical advisors in developing policy positions on biodiversity, natural resources management, climate adaptation, and gender cross-cutting issues.
- Identify opportunities to leverage project resources to provide opportunities for all stakeholder types to participate and collaborate on project objectives and activities.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to project staff, local partners, and community members to enhance communication skills.
- Develop and implement communication activities that promote the approaches of the CIP-TRANSCEND project
- Identify and manage risks and challenges related to communicating project objectives.
- Contribute to developing reports, case studies, and communication materials highlighting local project successes and lessons learned, and link with knowledge management platforms.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position is a full-time role.
- The initial contract will be for one year, with the possibility of an extension based on performance. The TRANSCEND project will be implemented for a period of four years.
- The post-holder will report to the Project Director and will support the project as a member of the Project Coordinating Team
- The position will require travel about 50% of the time to the project sites and may need to work for extended hours in remote locations, often in difficult travel and work conditions
- This position follows a hybrid work structure, working some days from the office and some remotely. Guidance will be shared during the interview process.
QUALIFICATIONSRequired
- Advocacy, Communication, and Creative Skills: Strong familiarity with biodiversity-related global processes (e.g., the Convention on Biodiversity or CBD, and related agreements) and climate change (the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and related agreements). High-level knowledge of domestic biodiversity, climate change, and governance policies. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English and some local language(s) to facilitate effective communication with local communities and partners. Must possess the ability to craft compelling narratives and messages for diverse audiences. Proficiency in creating various forms of content, including articles, press releases, social media posts, videos, and infographics, is preferred. Applicants must be creative and have a keen eye for design to develop visually appealing and relevant communication materials.
- Professional Experience: 2 to 4 years of relevant work experience in communications, public relations, or advocacy roles, preferably within the conservation, environmental, or NGO sector. Ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team of specialists, researchers, and community members. Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communications and advocacy strategies and campaigns.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Cultural Sensitivity: Strong understanding of local context, including knowledge of the provincial culture, politics, and stakeholders. Strong interpersonal skills and a highly developed ability to work in multicultural settings and with community groups of varying backgrounds; developed capacity for tact, diplomacy and negotiation. Proven experience in stakeholder engagement, community mobilization, and participatory approaches. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including indigenous people and local communities, government agencies, NGOs, and private sector partners. Respect for local cultures and an understanding of how human activities intersect with ecosystem dynamics. Strong work background in lobbying and playing key representational roles. Experience with participatory approaches and community engagement is an asset.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, able to use creative software and applications like Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar applications.
Preferred
- A Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, environmental science, or related fields.
