Job description: PAOA ASSOCIATIONINTERNAL/EXTERNAL JOB POSTINGJOB TITLE:Student Engagement and Transition Coordinator (contract), Job Reference #202505-05CDESCRIPTION:The Student Engagement and Transition Coordinator plays a critical role in the pre-arrival preparation, the arrival orientation, and the transition to university process for incoming student groups (direct from high school, transfer, etc.), while supporting of student engagement and retention.This position’s primary areas of responsibility are:

  • Develop and implement summer engagement programs and communications for incoming students.
  • Liaise with areas involved in pre and post-arrival engagement and transition of new students to coordinate effective alignment and scaffolding of information and service delivery.
  • Develop an engagement and transition structural plan with key goals and outcomes for new and upper year students.
  • Assist students facing challenges during their transition to university by providing check-ins, individualized support, and referrals to campus resources.
  • Work with campus partners (Western, Huron, and King’s) and Orientation Program student leaders to manage and develop all aspects of the Orientation Program (hiring and volunteer selections, planning and delivery of events, communications, training, yearlong program, policy development, budget management, risk management)
  • Ensure that the King’s Orientation Program meets King’s mission and values, established standards, and best practices in meeting the student development needs of all incoming King’s students through assessment and attention to research and emerging standards
  • Develop, create, and manage a curricular framework with established learning outcomes and assessment plans, informed by current student development research, in alignment with King’s academic mission, to provide structure and processes for delivery of student-centered events
  • Implement programming and communications in support of the student engagement structural goals and outcomes
  • Design and implement new programs and initiatives to meet the evolving needs of students at King’s
  • Coordinate student appreciation events throughout the year to enhance the King’s student experience·
  • Manage and develop all aspects of the King’s Academic Peer Mentoring Program (hiring and volunteer selections, planning and delivery of events, communications, training, yearlong program, policy development, risk management, budget)
  • Develop and manage the hiring and training of the Head Soph, Programming Assistants, Sophs, KAMP Coordinator, KAMP Mentors, and Work Study and IWE student staff
  • Develop and implement social media communications, linked to time-specific information needs, and student engagement programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (unless identified as preferred):The successful candidate must:

  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of previous relevant experience
  • Ability to work with diverse communities with respect, sensitivity, creativity, innovation, and cultural understanding.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to student development and student success
  • Ability to take initiative, manage multiple priorities, juggle complex tasks, and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation (public speaking), interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills with strong administrative, marketing and public relations skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in the application of student learning strategies and theory an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment and the ability to work effectively with university staff, students, faculty and build relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Requires flexibility to work long hours with the expectation of regular evening and weekend work at key points in the program cycles.
  • Knowledge of volunteer management, human resources practices and ethical recruitment practices an asset.
  • Proficient with a wide range of technical systems and tools as a regular function of work, including content management systems, project management software, databases, word processing and spreadsheet applications such as MS Word, Excel and Outlook, and social media platforms.
