We are looking for an individual seeking to develop their career in fixed income markets to join our team of dedicated investment professionals within Swiss Re’s Asset Management (AM) unit.About the RoleAs a Junior Portfolio Manager on the Rates and Asset Liability Management (ALM) team, you will be part of a team focused on Swiss Re’s government related fixed income portfolios. You will be engaging in investment analysis, portfolio construction, and trade execution. You will actively follow financial markets to develop a deep sense for the mechanisms at play as well as the human behavioural patterns exposed under different market environments.Key Responsibilities:
- Trading in a range of fixed income securities including government bonds, interest rate swaps, and other fixed income derivatives.
- Engaging in investment strategy and portfolio construction, including relative value, security selection and cross sector analysis.
- Contributing ideas for risk-taking opportunities with a path towards independent active risk-taking in global rates.
- Monitoring net interest rate risk positions within Swiss Re interest rate mandates; and reconciling daily risk changes with market movements and portfolio transactions.
- Assisting in the daily portfolio management process which includes booking trades, cross-checking profit and loss numbers, and producing investment presentations.
- Supporting the Rates and ALM team by automating reoccurring and ad hoc processes and reports using excel, python, Bloomberg, or other systems.
The position offers broad level of exposure to internal teams (Treasury, Risk Management, and other areas of Asset Management) as well as external counterparties (sales, trading and research departments of major investment banks).The role will be office-based in central London.About the TeamThe Rates and ALM team are a globally distributed team of ten investment professionals located in London, New York and Hong Kong and is part of the overall Client, Steering & ALM team. We are a core function within Swiss Re Asset Management, responsible for managing fixed income portfolios for Swiss Re’s global entities. The team consists of portfolio managers trading in government bonds, agency mortgages, inflation-linked securities, and associated derivatives for Swiss Re across a global portfolio. This position will report to the Co-Head Global Rates & ALM, who is London-based.About YouYou are a self-motivated individual with a passion for financial markets and an interest to analyse and understand the many drivers of global interest rates. You bring an analytical mindset and an attention to detail as you help the team manage the ALM rates positions across the portfolio. You work well under pressure, with an interest in executing trades in fast moving interest rate markets. You have strong communication skills and can discuss and debate investment ideas in a collaborative team environment.Essential Experience:
- 1-3 years of experience in the field of financial services; experience within financial markets or asset management is preferred.
- MS Office (Advanced Excel, PowerPoint).
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Maths, Psychology or another analytical field. Consideration will be given to exceptional candidates with alternative degrees or apprenticeships if the candidate holds a relevant professional qualification (e.g. CFA) and have applicable work experience
Nice to have:
- Familiarity with Bloomberg, BlackRock Aladdin are a plus.
- Proficiency with programming languages (Python, VBA), quantitative and/or statistical models
