The Group Internal Auditor plays a critical role in delivering independent and objective assurance to support Downer Group’s strategic, operational, and project objectives. As a key member of the Group Internal Audit and Assurance team, you will assess the effectiveness of internal processes and controls, risk management and governance across Downer’s diverse business units and corporate functions.This role involves conducting internal audits, risk assessments, advisory reviews, while supporting a culture of continuous improvement, compliance and ethical business conduct.Key ResponsibilitiesInternal Audit
- Support scoping of internal audits in accordance with the internal audit plan
- Identify and assess key risks and impediments to the delivery of process, projects or business objectives
- Deliver internal audit fieldwork with quality and in a timely manner, by performing meaningful analysis, identifying key risks and controls, and identifying key issues and opportunities for improvement
- Present internal audit results to Business Unit and Business Function auditees (as required)
- Prepare internal audit and advisory reports for presentation to leadership
- Proactively manage the management action follow up review process to ensure key recommendations have been effectively implemented
- Assist with the execution of fraud investigations and other ad-hoc advisory reviews
- Support innovation / continuous improvement in the internal audit approach
Risk Management
- Support the facilitation of risk workshops and promote risk awareness across the business.
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of enterprise risk frameworks, policies, and systems.
- Support the administration of the enterprise risk management platform.

Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline.
- 1-3 years’ experience in an internal or external audit function, ideally within a medium-to-large organisation or professional services firm.
- Industry exposure in construction, infrastructure, services, or manufacturing is advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
- High level of ethics, professionalism, and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables and VLOOKUP); Power BI skills are highly regarded.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and service excellence.
