Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. The Metrolinx Business Partnerships & Labour Relations team is on the lookout for a motivated new graduate to join us as an Intern, Business Partnerships & Labour Relations. Reporting directly to the VP of Business Partnerships & Labour Relations, you will play an integral role in supporting HR client services and Labour Relations initiatives. As Intern, Business Partnerships & Labour Relations, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with Strategic HR Business Partners, HR Generalists, and Labour Relations supporting HR initiatives, conduct research, and contribute to projects that enhance employee experience and workforce effectiveness.As Intern, Business Partnership & Labour Relations, you will take on a variety of responsibilities that provide learning opportunities supporting the Business Partnership, Employee & Labour Relations, and Workplace Harassment and Discrimination teams. In this role you will play a key part in supporting the client centric delivery of services across our client groups.The successful candidate has some experience in demonstrating their understanding of HR functions, employee relations and the general applications of the Employment Standards Act. They thrive as a self-starter who performs their best when challenged with new and diverse opportunities.What will I be doing?

  • Support Strategic HR Business Partners & HR Generalists in providing operational HR support to leaders and employees across various business areas.
  • Assist in research and analysis of labour relations trends, collective agreements, and employment legislation to support decision-making.
  • Track and document grievances, identifying key themes to support proactive labour relations strategies.
  • Conduct data analysis and trend reporting on employee relations issues, grievances, and other key HR metrics to inform decision-making.
  • Contribute to the development of HR policies, guidelines, and communications to ensure alignment with best practices and organizational goals.
  • Support HR-related projects, including workforce planning, organizational design, and change management initiatives.
  • Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and data analysis to provide insights on key HR and labour relations metrics.
  • Review HR data and reporting to ensure accuracy and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Support workplace investigations by assisting with intake reports, reviewing complaints, and attending investigation meetings.
  • Conduct benchmarking and research on industry best practices in employee relations, performance management, and workplace investigations.
  • Support the development of training materials and resources for leaders on labour relations, workplace investigations, and HR policies.
  • Embrace additional responsibilities and challenges as needed, contributing to a collaborative and dynamic HR team environment.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • General knowledge of HR functions including Employee & Labour Relations.
  • Familiarity with employment and human rights legislation and collective bargaining agreements through coursework or case studies.
  • Experience in researching workplace policies, compliance and organizational behaviour.
  • Experience handling and analysing data, surveys or employee engagement reports.
  • Strong written and verbal skills to coordinate presentations, reports and client group meetings.
  • Self-starter who proactively brings ideas and optimization recommendations to the team.
  • Must be available in the Greater Toronto Area for a June 2nd, 2025 start date.
