Consistently ranked among the top 10 medical schools in Canada, our faculty is among the top faculties of medicine in the world for research impact in biomedical and health sciences.Position Purpose:The incumbent is responsible for capturing the complex scientific and health, safety, risk requirements for all assigned projects with the approved scope and applicable government codes, all within established project methodologies. They develop the expected scope from the faculty members and translate them into project action. Under general supervision, this position supports the Planners and Project Managers at Facilities in the delivery of the program. Collaborates with the direct supervisor to develop projects that reduce reactive tasks within the faculty, and to create future faculty plans.Specific Accountabilities :Project Initiation: Initiates projects with the development of an Initial Project Expectation document, which is a collection of the project sponsors’ requirements (instruments and installation with associated plumbing, electrical, HVAC, data, instrumentation needs). Consults with Faculty Health, Safety, and Risk Management to document the hazards and risks in the project including proposed equipment. Uses computer aided drafting software to document the architectural changes. Provides sufficient information to establish a rough order of magnitude estimate of the project. Informs and negotiates with project sponsors (usually professors) to manage costs by providing alternatives to make grants successful before application.Project Monitoring: Monitors the delivery of assigned projects to completion and ensures project outcomes remain aligned with the original objectives, schedule, budget and quality. Works closely with the Project Management Team at Facilities to manage these requirements. Identifies project issues and risks during the project execution; and negotiates means to return a project back on track; decides when to escalate to direct supervisor for guidance or resolution. Attends project meetings, and coordinates construction activities with all affected laboratories (incl. shutdowns whose effect exceeds the construction area).Project Support: Supports Planners and Project Managers by liaising with project sponsors to gather and/or edit information such as project expectations, specifications, and plans. Participates and provides support at different stages of projects by monitoring project progress, ensuring follow-up and communications are clear and efficient with all affected parties.Compliance and Performance Management: Ensure handover is completed and project documentation is compliant with regulations and internal requirements. In collaboration with Facilities, monitors the performance of consultants, contractors, suppliers and vendors and ensure the terms of contracts are fulfilled.Financial Management, Procurement and other: Ensure assigned projects are delivered as per the approved budget. Informs the direct supervisor when project timelines or budgets may be exceeded for completing projects. Perform other related duties as assigned by the direct supervisor. Inform the Facility Manager when additional funds are required to complete the project.Faculty Infrastructure Support and Other Duties: Support the Facility Manager in areas of strategic alignment and operational efficiency ensuring smooth operations and implementation of daily activities and projects. Perform other related duties as required.. At times, manages the entire delivery of small projects (ex: office renovations) including but not limited to the planning, the design, the procurement, and the construction phase.Knowledge, Experience, Competencies and SkillsEssential Qualifications:Diploma or degree in a three- or four-year program in building or architectural technology, and strong knowledge base in building systems (HVAC, controls, service distribution, fume hoods, mechanical and electrical systems) and state-of-the-art practices in building design as integrated with complex scientific equipment in a research-intensive institution.Five (5) years of relevant experience in the construction field.
