Find out more and .Your OpportunityThe (IHSAP) is a collaborative initiative designed to address the needs of people experiencing homelessness, along with associated challenges such as mental ill health, alcohol and other drug use, family violence, health, and financial issues. Mission Australia plays a central role in providing holistic client engagement, case coordination, and through-care services for those residing in or accessing support at the facility.As the Intake and Assessment Officer, you will be the first point of contact for referrals, conducting person-centred assessments, maintaining a small case load, and promoting the program to internal and external stakeholders. This role is crucial to ensuring the effective operation of the IHSAP and aligns with Mission Australia’s values and objectives.Your Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the program’s waitlist, including conducting follow-ups with applicants to confirm continued interest and need for services.
  • Facilitate initial intake and assessment processes, including booking assessments, conducting risk evaluations, and advising clients on their rights, responsibilities, and program guidelines.
  • Maintain high-quality communication with both internal and external stakeholders, including homelessness service providers, allied agencies, and clients.
  • Create and maintain accurate intake and assessment files in Mission Australia’s electronic systems, ensuring all data is updated and compliant with protocols.
  • Provide culturally competent communication and responses, including handling emergency situations and escalating reports as required.
  • Establish and nurture strong relationships with alliance partners, and other external agencies to support collaborative service delivery.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional development, and Mission Australia’s Quality Assurance Framework to nurture a positive team culture and best practices.

Requirements for SuccessWith a strong background in Community Services and/or Homelessness sectors, with demonstrated ability to work with vulnerable people, you will be confident managing competing priorities and working with people displaying challenging behaviours. Other requirements include:

  • Relevant qualifications such as a Certificate IV in Community Services (or higher), with a minimum of 12 months of experience in a similar role.
  • Experience and knowledge of assessment and intake processes, particularly within community services or homelessness support frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal cultural systems and protocols, along with the ability to engage effectively with culturally diverse communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals experiencing complex challenges, such as homelessness, mental health concerns, and alcohol or drug dependency.
  • Competency in using computer systems, including Microsoft Office and web-based information management systems, with a focus on data accuracy and compliance.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • A positive, person-centred approach, combined with strong boundary-setting and professional confidentiality.
  • Full driver licence with no restrictions
