For over 70 years AGS has stood behind our belief in quality, technology, and teamwork.AGS is looking for a contract Human Resources Generalist for 12 to 15 months to join our dynamic organization.BASIC FUNCTIONThis position reports to the Human Resources Manager and performs various Human Resources generalist and administrative functions at the Oshawa, Ontario plant.PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES * Supports positive employee and labour relations by providing advice and guidance regarding Company policies and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

  • Responsible for completion of payroll functions in a timely and accurate manner, including preparation of ROEs, hiring, layoffs, recalls and terminations. Completes all required payroll documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Key resource for the employees and retirees regarding the information and administration of the Company’s group insurance benefits, pension benefits and deferred profit-sharing plan.
  • Assist with employee relations issues by investigating questions and/or concerns.
  • Coordinates and communicates unionized employee job movements within the plant, including job postings, layoffs and recalls.
  • Organize, schedule and lead training sessions as required.
  • Conduct HR orientation training when required.
  • Act as the key HR resource for Full-time, Temporary Part-Time worker and Student programs in the plant, including but not limited to recruitment and selection and completion of regular performance evaluations.
  • Responsible for administration of the safety boot, tool allowance, prescription eyewear and work wear programs.
  • Assist with General HR Administration including but not limited to generating employment confirmation letters, layoff and recall letters, processing retirements, generating reports and forms, generating and posting notices in the plant, assist with distribution of mail, administer invoices for the HR department, administers the employee bereavement process, maintains the overtime equalization file, etc.
  • Responsible for monitoring & recording unionized employee absences, attendance tracking, preparing reports and information for discussion.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate maintenance of employee records and HR filing systems.
  • Assist the HR Manager in the management and administration of medical claims, early and safety return to work program, as well as manage and administer employee leaves of absence.
  • Lead the coordination of employee and plant recognition events and awards as required.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned.

SKILL

  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in a Human Resources role, preferably in a unionized manufacturing environment
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources or related field.
  • Completion of, or working towards, the Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation is an asset.
  • Benefits management experience would be considered an asset.
  • Strong computer skills, experience with payroll and timekeeping software is required
  • Experience with employment legislation and regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong knowledge of people management, coaching and leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to effectively interface with various stakeholders both within the organization and externally.
  • Approachable, positive, enthusiastic and solutions oriented.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills

EFFORT

  • Frequent periods of mental and visual concentration during computer work and analyses.
  • Frequent interruptions from employees and other contacts requires the ability to juggle several priorities and refocus quickly.
  • Involves some walking throughout plant.
  • Volume of work is steady with periods of high demand and time pressures.

RESPONSIBILITY

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and initiate actions within the scope of authority.
  • Requires maintaining standards of confidentiality with respect to private information.
  • Requires meeting standards of compliance for financial and legislated obligations.
  • Requires prioritizing assignments according to deadlines.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • 100% on-site position.
  • Most work is carried out in a typical business office with occasional visits to the shop floor which requires wearing personal protective equipment.
  • Some risk of exposure to dirt, grease, temperature, noise, chemicals.
