Job description: Our client has a new opportunity for a Winter Road Health and Safety Field Representative on a temporary contract basis. The representative will be responsible for day-to-day health and safety during the construction and maintenance of a winter road. This role reports to the Project Manager and works cooperatively with the Site Supervisor. The position involves working with all subcontractors, suppliers, and field personnel, including some onsite administrative tasks and office-based documentation planning and preparation. The representative will enforce all health and safety policies and plans on-site. Some projects are in remote locations and may involve fly-in/fly-out or drive-in/drive-out arrangements, with accommodations, meals, and travel expenses covered. The position will start in January 2025 and conclude around April 2025, with potential for other projects afterward.Responsibilities

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with and enforcing applicable HSE legislation, regulations, codes, and standards, as well as client-specific HSE requirements.
  • Work in the field on a rotation basis, 10 to 12 hours per day. Winter driving conditions will be required.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to health and safety; set a good example for workers through attitude, conduct, and compliance with safety requirements.
  • Develop, review, implement, and maintain project-specific H&S programs, ERP, work plans, and procedures.
  • Serve as the initial contact for all site-specific health and safety activities.
  • Suspend any operation that threatens the health or safety of workers or the public, and immediately notify the Supervisor and Project Manager.
  • Take measures to reduce hazards or correct unsafe conditions or actions when aware of such conditions.
  • Provide active worker participation in the project H&S Program; deliver site orientation, information, instruction, and training necessary for worker protection.
  • Coordinate on multi-employer project sites with all parties, including the client and subcontractors.
  • Assess risks and identify, prioritize, and control hazards on the project, including preparation and review of procedures and FLHA’s.
  • Conduct/participate in site safety meetings such as daily tailgate meetings and weekly safety meetings.
  • Conduct observations and inspections; identify and implement corrective actions for hazards.
  • Complete near-miss, incident, spill reporting, and safety observations reporting.
  • Conduct investigations and root cause analysis of any incidents.
  • Participate in client-facing meetings/inspections and communicate Health and Safety stats and presentations.
  • Prepare, distribute, and maintain all safety reports and records as required by the H&S Program.
  • Track project stats and hours (person hours and equipment).
  • Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committees, as applicable.
  • Provide and maintain stock of personal protective equipment and enforce its use.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum three years of Health and Safety experience in winter and northern climate projects or Oil and Gas, working with heavy equipment and earth rigs.
  • Valid first aid level 1 or equivalent, or able to obtain within two weeks of employment.
  • Effective communication skills, comfortable with presenting H&S information and building strong working relationships.
  • Proven record of developing, implementing, and embedding a positive safety culture on project sites.
  • Valid full class driver’s license.
  • Able to travel and work extended hours as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in winter road construction and maintenance is an asset but not required.
  • Experience in clearing and prepping sites for winter investigative drilling and sampling is an asset but not required.
  • Experience in earthworks, site remediation, or civil work is an asset but not required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Comfortable in client and third-party environments; able to build exemplary working relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.

Work EnvironmentThis position involves working in remote locations, with fly-in/fly-out or drive-in/drive-out arrangements. Accommodations, meals, and travel expenses are covered. The work schedule consists of 12-hour days, 7 days a week. The work is primarily in the Oil and Gas industry, with a ratio of 12-15 people per HSE advisor. The representative will be provided with a truck from Edmonton and will be reimbursed for travel time.
