Purpose of jobThe Head of Knowledge will be responsible for developing and managing the firm’s KM strategy and overseeing/ controlling all knowledge management aspects within the firm. The role will involve driving legal knowledge innovation, facilitating expertise sharing, and enhancing client service through effective knowledge management practices.You will lead the Knowledge Management department, taking ownership of developing and managing a diverse team of knowledge professionals, with a combination of direct and indirect reports at varying levels.
ResponsibilitiesStrategy and Leadership:
- In conjunction with the Director of Innovation, develop and execute the firm’s Knowledge strategy, considering the requirements for multiple practice areas and varied client profiles
- Champion the cause of Knowledge Management across the organisation, enlightening colleagues on its link to effective use of technology and AI
- Collaborate with other business leaders to facilitate the sharing of expertise to create value for the firm (both in terms of direct revenue generation and internal efficiencies)
Collaboration:
- Work closely and collaboratively with other business support leaders to help them achieve their objectives in terms of capturing and disseminating knowledge
- Work closely with a diverse group of PSLs/PDLs, creating a cohesive and overarching vision whilst enabling individuality in terms of skillsets and execution
Project Management:
- Design and lead centralised Knowledge Management projects, drawing together disparate practice areas to create streamlined value to the client
- Enhance client service, financial efficiency, and profitability through effective KM initiatives.
- Working with IT and Data teams to create and maintain modern KM workflows and usefully structured data
Training and Innovation:
- Working with the Learning and Development teams to drive legal knowledge innovation and training development
- Staying current on Knowledge Management issues in the professional services market, and act as a thought leader in the space
Client-Focused Tools:
- Collaborate with Director of Innovation to develop client-facing knowledge-based marketing tools (e.g., handbooks, apps, technical updates, training programs) or products
Management/ Leadership:
- Providing leadership, encouragement and development opportunities to the team; building and maintaining a culture of high performance/ high support and operational excellence
- Pro-actively performance manage direct reports; providing regular feedback and conducting regular performance check-ins
- Building and maintaining a quality control culture for the team and leading on reviews and processes
