We really are a company that wants to make a positive difference.He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the roleWatercare is a pioneering entity in the newly regulated Water sector, committed to ensuring economic regulation is a success from inception. The newly forming Economic Regulation team will be at the forefront of shaping the regulatory landscape for this industry.The Economic Regulation function will help Watercare to understand and meet its regulatory obligations, maintain relationships with key industry regulators, represent the company in regulatory discussion, deliver effective advocacy and provide for central regulatory oversight across the business.The Head of Economic Regulation is a key influencer and trusted advisor that provides both proactive thought leadership and an executive engagement capability to Watercare. This position plays a key role in shaping and delivering Watercare’s regulatory strategy.Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role will lead the establishment of the Economic Regulation function, embed the interim charter into business as usual and guide Watercare through a successful transition into the permanent economic regulation regime.The Head of Economic Regulation is a key influencer and trusted advisor that provides both proactive thought leadership and an executive engagement capability to Watercare. This position plays a key role in shaping and delivering Watercare’s regulatory strategy.Ngā pūkenga e rapu nei mātou | About youYou are an excellent communicator with a strong background in regulation. Your skills and experience include:

  • Sound experience as a trusted advisor working with CEO, CFO, executive team and Board.
  • Proven ability to surface, frame and work on key issues at pace and with agility – short, medium and long term.
  • Both depth and breadth of experience in senior regulatory or policy-making roles, preferably from within a network utility or infrastructure.
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory thinking and practice.
  • Exceptional experience delivering clear, persuasive written and verbal communications.
  • Experience of building and maintaining effective external executive level relationships, including government agencies and advocacy bodies.
  • Experience advocating in a way that builds understanding, trust and cohesion.
  • Demonstrable leadership experience – both direct and indirect.
  • A relevant tertiary or post graduate qualification in Economics, Finance or similar
  • Experience in a water or infrastructure environment is advantageous.
