The Role: Strategic Leadership Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for the Mirco and Small Business segment, ensuring alignment with overall corporate objectives and market opportunities. Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success and implement data-driven adjustments to strategies as needed. Business Development Identify and engage with potential strategic partners, including but not limited to SME associations, digital banks, non-profit organizations, governmental agencies and other relevant stakeholders. Cultivate relationships with existing distribution channels, including life agents, market agents, brokers and banking partners to drive growth and expand market reach. Market Intelligence Conduct thorough market research and analysis to understand the landscape, identify customer needs, and assess competitive positioning. Utilize insights to inform product development, marketing strategies, and partnership opportunities. Consumer Education and Awareness Design and implement consumer education programs aimed at raising awareness of insurance products, benefits and availability, specifically targeting the uninsured segment. Collaborate with external partners and community organizations to promote financial literacy and insurance awareness among micro and small businesses. Collaboration and Internal Engagement Engage with cross-functional teams (underwriting, agency distribution, corporate distribution, digital & affinity and IT) to ensure alignment and commitment to the Micro and Small Business strategy. Lead change management initiatives to shift the focus of the distribution team to more inclusive offerings for SMEs, emphasizing the importance of this market segment. Performance Monitoring and Reporting Monitor the performance of segment initiatives, analyzing results against KPIs and making recommendations for continuous improvement. Provide regular updates to the senior management team on progress, challenges and strategic insights. Product Development Work closely with underwriting and product development teams to design insurance products that meet the specific needs of micro and small businesses. Advocate for innovative solutions that leverage technology and platforms to enhance customer experience & journey. Communication and Advocacy Serve as the company’s ambassador for the Micro and Small Business segment, promoting value propositions to potential partners and clients. Develop and deliver presentations, proposals, and reports that articulate the segment strategy and its benefits to stakeholders. Takes accountability in considering business and regulatory compliance risks and takes appropriate steps to mitigate the risks Maintains awareness of industry trends on regulatory compliance, emerging threats and technologies in order to understand the risk and better safeguard the company Highlights any potential concerns /risks and proactively shares best risk management practices Other responsibilities entailed The Person: Education At least tertiary qualification Experience Minimum 7 years of experience in insurance, business development, or strategic planning, with a proven track of record in the SME or microbusiness sector. Experience in partnership development and managing cross-functional teams. Leadership and Interpersonal Skills Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to inspire and drive a vision across diverse teams. Excellent relationship-building skills with a network of industry contacts and a strong reputation in the insurance industry. Analytical and Strategic Thinking Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and develop actionable insights. Strategic thinker with a forward-looking approach to business development and market positioning. Communication Skills Superior verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging stakeholders at all levels. Experience in developing compelling presentations and proposals. Adaptability and Problem-Solving Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with the ability to pivot and adapt strategies as needed. Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset toward overcoming challenges.
