Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.About the RoleReporting to the Group Director of Operations, Health New Zealand – MidCentral District, is seeking a strong Operational Leader with a “can-do” attitude and a deep understanding of business operations within a large organisation.The role will be critical in leading the delivery of key operational and support services in an efficient and economical manner with an emphasis on service delivery, contract management and supervision.   • A relevant graduate and significant post-graduate experience.
  • Significant experience of working at strategic levels with high levels of self-drive.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and monitoring operational strategies .
  • Deep understanding and respect for Māori culture, values, and practices, with a proven ability to integrate Te Ao Māori and Pacific worldviews into health system transformation.
  • Visionary leadership and strategic direction, with a track record of driving systemic change that advances performance-based outcomes.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain trusted relationships across various management levels.
  • Highly effective communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences, including policymakers, health professionals, iwi leaders, and community members.
  • Strong understanding of data interpretation and compliance (related to contract management)
  • Proven ability to navigate complexity, making informed, culturally responsive decisions that contribute to positive and measurable health system improvements.

Desired:

  • Experience in leading and influencing policy development, across areas of responsibility.
  • Experience working in large, complex organisations with a focus on transformational change, workforce development, and service improvement.
  • An understanding of financial and operational frameworks, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support equity-focused initiatives.
