Our culture is hands-on, safety focused and encourages continuous improvement.Our diverse portfolio means there is always something on the go and as a business we are collaborative, fast-paced and always open.About the role:We’ve just set our new strategy to 2035 and are on the lookout for an experienced and strategic Group Financial Controller to lead our finance function. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will play a key role in ensuring robust financial management, maintaining fiscal integrity, and delivering timely, accurate financial insights that drive strategic decision-making. In this role you’ll also:

  • Deliver a positive impact on business performance through understanding the overarching business strategy, leveraging systems and data, providing sound guidance and challenging how we do things
  • Provide financial leadership across Port Otago, aligning our financial management with group strategic objectives
  • Effectively lead a team of three direct reports to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting while streamlining and improving processes to reduce our month end turnaround
  • Deliver a positive impact on business performance via expert financial management and advice to our leaders and budget holders
  • Have full accountability for period end processes, reviewing financial results, and preparation of financial statements
  • Lead projects and change to move us closer to best utilisation of systems and data, to inform great decision making

About you:You’ll be a proven leader with a track record of financial excellence in a fast-paced environment who is inquisitive, and data led in their thinking. You’ll also:

  • Have expert knowledge of accounting principles and regulatory frameworks with at least 10 years’ experience post NZ CA qualification (or equivalent)
  • Have exceptional business acumen with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights
  • Have leadership experience with a track record of developing high performing, collaborative finance teams
  • Be a creative, strategic thinker who can challenge existing systems and drive innovative solutions
  • Have outstanding communication skills; you’ll be capable of engaging stakeholders at all levels
  • Be tech savvy with proven capability to leverage financial technologies and data analytics for informed decision-making
  • Be proactive, organised and flexible, you’ll be comfortable iterating work in an agile way

  • This is typically a Monday to Friday position, but as the Port operates 24/7, occasionally some flexibility is required
  • A full clean NZ Drivers licence is essential
  • A high standard of safety – not afraid to speak up
  • You must be able to pass Ministry of Justice, ACC checks and a medical which includes a drug and alcohol test as part of our recruitment process
  • We complete random drug and alcohol testing
