Tēnei tūranga – About the Role:This role will require strong leadership and a growth mindset. You will be part of the Labour, Science and Enterprise leadership team and as part of that you will bring your experience in leading complex work programmes and cohesive thinking to deliver results. The successful candidate will bring a comprehensive understanding of the machinery of government and the critical part that Tourism and Hospitality plays in MBIE’s purpose of ‘Grow Aotearoa New Zealand for all’.This role requires sound and insightful judgement coupled with an innate ability to influence and build relationships with a wide range of stakeholder groups, up to and including at Ministerial level. Your breadth of skills and knowledge in manoeuvring through often politically sensitive and ambiguous issues will provide clarity and an achievable vision for the branch.Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako e hiahiatia ana –Skills and Experience Required

• Senior experience leading complex programmes over a range of specialist areas considering both strategic and operational needs, including the design and delivery of performance monitoring systems
• Proven leadership skills including demonstrated ability to lead and develop diverse teams and different specialisations and an ability to build strong, high performing teams
• Ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships and to develop and maintain effective relationships with Ministers, senior public service officials, and internal and external stakeholders
• A solid understanding of the key influences on the New Zealand economy and business environment and the ability to build strong working relationships with industry stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically and work through complex political situations with high ambiguity and under pressure
• Significant experience working at a senior level in government with a good understanding of Government decision-making and operating procedures
• Extensive involvement leading high quality policy advice across a range of specialist areas and a wide-ranging knowledge of policy monitoring and accountability disciplines and processes
• Relevant tertiary qualification or extensive and comparable relevant experience
• To be considered for this position you must have a legal right to live and work in New Zealand either hold or be suitable to attain an appropriate national security clearance
