The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a General Manager, Strategic Projects to provide a critical role within Custodial Operations.About the Business UnitCorrections Victoria is a business unit of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). Corrections Victoria’s vision is ‘Safer prisons, safer people, safer communities’. Our mission is to have ‘A safer, smarter system with a skilled and supported workforce, that enables people in our care to make better decisions’.Strategic Project Delivery is expanding to include a fixed term project team to support Assistant Commissioners and prison General Managers in managing and supporting reforms at locations, from stakeholder engagement processes, analysis, and project planning, through to implementation and project evaluation.About the RoleReporting to the Assistant Commissioner, Custodial Operations the General Manager, Strategic Projects leads and manages the newly established Strategic Projects team, focussed on implementing a range of projects in operational environments, preparing our people for change and ensuring successful outcomes in the Victorian custodial system. This role will be responsible for creating and sustaining a workforce culture built on solid values, professional excellence and teamwork. Core to being successful will be strong leadership, communication and influence skills.The General Manager, Strategic Projects will be responsible for responding to emerging strategic issues and providing direction, knowledge and innovative solutions to support the implementation of operational changes and reforms. The role is diverse in scope and operates within a complex and dynamic environment that requires the ability to exercise sound judgement through utilising expertise and knowledge regarding workforce relations and Corrections Victoria policies and procedures.Given the nature of the project, the Strategic Project team will generally work from Ravenhall State Services Buildings, although project needs will necessitate travel and work at other locations.As the General Manager, Strategic Projects, some of your duties will include:

• Developing, implementing and managing all aspects of the operational and strategic activities relating to strategic reforms, including stakeholder management, project planning and management of risk.
• Providing high quality, authoritative and strategic advice to, and on behalf of, the Assistant Commissioner on complex and sensitive issues where the purpose is to influence change and process improvement within the custodial system.
• Identifying emerging issues and developing creative, innovative and practical solutions and recommendation to ensure effective project delivery.

• Significant experience in the development and introduction of reform projects in complex workplaces, where there are stakeholders with varying requirements.
• Specialist knowledge of the custodial operational environment including, but not limited to, legislative and compliance obligations, safety, industrial requirements, structured day, and case management would be an advantage.
• Experience in the management or monitoring of significant or complex projects, programs or policy initiatives.

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification or experience in Project Management, Change Management, Business Management/Human Resources or a related discipline would be highly regarded.
• Previous experience in the public sector, preferably in justice and/or community service-related environment.
