You will partner with operational managers to ensure sound financial management, accurate budgeting and forecasting, and support strategic decision making through rigorous financial analysis. This role collaborates closely with the Senior Finance Business Partner for the relevant program, delivering proactive insights and accurate, timely financial reporting and analysis to support strategic decision-making.”

  • Undertake financial analysis of operational strategies to ensure efficient utilisation of resources, identifying opportunities to improve financial results
  • Provide a link between finance and operational functions, and provide support to the senior finance business partner
  • Assist with the development of financial planning within the relevant departments, ensuring strategy, workforce, activity and finances are aligned
  • Take responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of month end financial reporting for relevant departments, working closely with the financial accounting team to ensure all transaction processing is complete in line with communicated deadlines
  • Prepare monthly forecasts based on trend analysis, discussion with budget managers and business knowledge

The classification for this role will be HS3 – HS25 with an additional over award (total $107,622 – $115,479 per annum) plus super and salary packagingYour Contribution

  • High quality analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to develop complex costing analyses and financial models.
  • Ability to produce high quality work under pressure, with particular reference to month end reporting and budget preparation.
  • Financial planning and budgeting experience, preferably in a large, complex organisation.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills, particularly around the communication of financial data and concepts to non-finance staff at all levels within the organisations.
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to recognise problems and develop solutions whilst working collaboratively with others.
  • Member of (or working towards) CAANZ or CPA Australia.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (in commerce, business, accounting, law or finance)
  • A valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, or willing to obtain

About the Finance Team
The SVHM finance department comprises around 37 staff across both transational and business facing roles. This role sits with in the strategic finance team, providing finance advice and analytical expertise to operational managers throughout the hospital.   • Support financial decision-making through the provision of timely, accurate and useful information to management.
  • Support managers with their understanding of the business and key variables within it.

Financial planning

  • Assist with the development of financial planning within the relevant departments, ensuring strategy, workforce, activity and finances are aligned.
  • Ensure financial plans are accurately reflected in budgets and adhere to agreed assumptions.
  • Assist department and cost centre managers in identifying opportunities for cost savings and income generation/maximisation, ensuring robust challenge and scrutiny.

Month end

  • Take responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of month end financial reporting for relevant departments, working closely with the financial accounting team to ensure all transaction processing is complete in line with communicated deadlines.
  • Communicate material variances to budget to the senior finance business partner and as required, prepare written monthly commentary including variance analysis.
  • Proactively communicate and follow up key issues with managers.

Forecasting

  • Prepare monthly forecasts based on trend analysis, discussion with budget managers and business knowledge.
  • Identify and explain variances between forecast and actual results, using this information to minimise future forecast variances.
  • In conjunction with the senior finance business partner, communicate forecasts to managers in a timely manner.

Business case modelling and costing

  • Provide robust financial modelling to support business cases, tenders and new initiatives within the departments.

Financial governance

  • Participate in (and in some cases lead) regular financial performance review meetings within departments, in conjunction with the senior finance business partner, ensuring agreed documentation is prepared and provided in advance to key stakeholders.
  • Ensure application of appropriate internal controls and oversight of financial resources.
  • Support the senior finance business partner to develop appropriate financial governance mechanisms within departments. Communicate same to managers as required.

Training

  • Contribute to the organisation’s financial management training programme for non-financial staff, which may include the design of training material and facilitation/presentation at training events.

6.SELECTION CRITERIA

6.1 ESSENTIAL REGISTRATION, LICENSE OR QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Member of (or working towards) CAANZ or CPA Australia
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (in commerce, business, accounting, law or finance)

6.2 OTHER ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • 3+ years of experience, preferably in an analyst or management accounting role, with exposure to management in non-finance roles.
  • Ability to quickly develop a thorough knowledge of government reporting regulations, DH funding models and policies, service agreements, regulations and by-laws applicable to the health service.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Excel.
