Non-Ongoing at level or Acting Opportunity up-to 18 MonthsThe PositionThe Assistant Director – Basin Plan Ecohydrology – SDLAM will have an interest in hydrology, ecology and/or natural resource management and be passionate about using science to help shape water policy in the Review. They will collate and translate knowledge relevant to the Basin’s hydrology and ecology as an information base to inform future policy directions. Specifically, this position is responsible for leading the work on hydrological and environmental spatial analytics to support the 2026 SDLAM reconciliation, a key Basin Plan Implementation activity. The role works closely with other parts of the Applied Science Branch, MDBA (in particular the SDLAM reconciliation team) and other agencies of the Australian Government, the Basin States and Territories.Your key responsibilities in this role are to
- Lead, manage and undertake eco-hydrology spatial analysis to support the 2026 SDLAM reconciliation. This will require capability to undertake GIS/spatial data analysis and use code (Python) to process data.
- Provide strategic advice and recommendations.
- Maintain a high level of written and oral communication including preparation of reports, briefing material, correspondence and presentation of results and analysis in formats suitable for a range of audiences including Executive, technical working groups and stakeholders.
- Assist with other Applied Science activities as required for Basin Plan implementation and/or Basin Plan Review work programs as required.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders including presenting the agency’s views to key stakeholders in the context of very complex and sensitive issues.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary and geographically dispersed team to contribute to Basin Plan implementation.
