About the role
The Assistant Director, Integrity Investigations will lead a small team of investigators to undertake investigations into internal integrity and conduct matters relating to ACIC employees and members of staff.The incumbent will be experienced in conducting criminal, administrative and misconduct investigations. They will provide specialist guidance to the Director Integrity on integrity and conduct matters and processes and contribute positively to team, branch, agency and APS outcomes.The Assistant Director, Integrity Investigations will be a key contributor at the operational and tactical level in joint agency operations with NIC, law enforcement and oversight partners including the National Anti-Corruption Commission.Key responsibilities:

  • Contribute under the leadership of the Director Integrity to joint agency operations with our integrity oversight and law enforcement partners in strategic and operational contexts.
  • Lead investigators to meet Australian Government requirements and undertake balanced and professional investigations in line with relevant policy and legislation.
  • Lead and mentor junior team members and direct reports in the Integrity team.
  • Undertake complex administrative investigations and criminal investigations.
  • Provide specialist advice to the Director Integrity in relation to integrity risk.
  • Contribute to effective integrity processes, methods and internal governance. The position plays a key role in influencing a robust integrity culture in the ACIC.

  • Experience conducting and leading complex administrative and/or criminal investigations and holds qualifications in Commonwealth investigations.

  • Demonstrates an analytical, evidence and risk-based approach to investigations and adapts these in complex and challenging situations and operating environments.
  • A compliance awareness and focus and the ability to contribute effectively toward the development of agency integrity culture, working well with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong written communication skills with experience writing policies, procedures, reports, investigative documents and briefs, operational risk assessments and briefing.
  • Considers and manages complex risks and is able to work with external partners on joint operations.
  • Complies with the Australian Government Investigations Standards (AGIS).

Essential qualifications

  • Certificate IV in Government (Fraud Control and Investigations) or equivalent qualification in accordance with the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 and the Commonwealth Fraud Control Framework.

  • Citizenship – To be eligible for employment with the ACIC, applicants must be an Australian citizen.
  • Security Clearance – The Australian community expects ACIC employees to maintain the highest levels of security and integrity. Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.
