As the Economic Development Senior Advisor at Whakatāne District Council, you’ll play a key role in identifying opportunities, delivering impactful programmes, and building partnerships across iwi, business, and community sectors. Your work will directly support strategic initiatives that enhance economic wellbeing, drive district growth, and leverage the unique cultural, environmental, and community strengths of the Whakatāne District.You’ll lead and contribute to economic development projects, provide high-level policy advice, manage strategic relationships, and champion initiatives that encourage entrepreneurship, workforce development, and sector growth.   • A degree in economic development, planning, business, public policy, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in economic development, local or central government, or a relevant sector.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver strategic initiatives and collaborative projects.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Excellent relationship management, stakeholder engagement, and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working in partnership with iwi and supporting Māori economic development.
  • Solid project management and high-level report writing proficiency.
  • A strong understanding of economic development trends, drivers, and local government functions.
  • Cultural competence and a genuine commitment to partnership with Māori communities.
  • A proactive, results-oriented approach with strong interpersonal skills and adaptability.
