Job description: This major UK and international law firm have an excellent opportunity for a further Associate to join their thriving and market leading Shipping Litigation practice in Dubai. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to join a busy, fast-growing, and yet well-established practice, led by pre-eminent Dubai partners in this field. Acting for the full spectrum of industry participants, including shipowners and charterers, P&I Clubs, banks, international agencies, shipyards, marine insurance underwriters, governments and brokers, their team have a sound understanding of how the market works across dry shipping, admiralty & crisis management, and transactional work. The role will essentially encompass a broad mix of mainly wet & dry shipping work, with a particular focus on disputes under charterparties, bills of lading, EPC contracts, ship-building / ship-repair contracts and sale of goods contracts; some work is also likely to involve advising on casualties and offshore incidents such as collisions, allisions, etc.; with the role will largely centering on overseeing claims before both domestic and international arbitral forums, including DIAC, SCCA, LMAA, GAFTA, FOSFA, LCIA and ICC, as well as before the English High Courts. The nature and size of their team guarantees involvement in all aspects of cases, albeit within a highly supportive team environment, which allows development opportunities to take your career forward and make a significant contribution to matter outcomes. You’ll also be encouraged from an early stage to foster and generate client relationships and to play an active part in the team’s BD. The role accordingly presents a stand-out opportunity to build your profile, career and experience at top level within the Shipping field in the UAE and across the broader ME region. Applicants should ideally be UK or Commonwealth qualified lawyers, with high-level relevant experience, strong academics and excellent communication and organisational skills.
