The Director of Small Business Marketing leads efforts to grow brand consideration and market share, aligning with Optus’ corporate strategy. This role focuses on branded content and acquisition communications, driving growth from new and existing customers through collaboration with customer marketing, owned channels, and small business sales channels like retail, telesales, digital, and Optus Business Centres.Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Business Marketing, the position involves managing large-scale advertising programs to deliver sales and ROI, ensuring alignment with the Optus Brand, and leading a team of content, channel, event and performance marketers. It requires collaboration across internal and external comms, legal, product teams, and agency partners.Your day in the life of a Director, Small Business Marketing at Optus

  • Own the end-to-end development and execution of the Optus Small Business marketing strategy, including brand, performance activities, and creative campaigns targeting business audiences.
  • Coordinate and improve a significant growth marketing media budget to achieve a strong value and create impactful seasonal campaigns and product launches.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing team of 6 FTEs, collaborating with agencies, creatives, and media partners to improve Optus’ connection with Australian small businesses.
  • Collaborate extensively with internal leaders and teams, including Product Marketing, Brand Marketing, Customer Marketing, and Retail Comms, to ensure consistent messaging and strategy alignment across the funnel.
  • Foster partnerships with external business partners and internal groups (e.g., media partners, Corporate Affairs, HR) to amplify brand presence and align marketing efforts with strategic business goals.

What makes you perfect for the role?

  • Professional qualifications in Marketing or Business with 10-15 years of professional marketing experience, including 4+ years in leadership.
  • Proven expertise in developing coordinated demand strategies and driving campaigns to exceed pipeline and revenue targets across various industries.
  • Strong negotiation, influencing, and partner leadership skills, with the ability to effectively influence senior and executive-level partners.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams, managing complex projects, and exercising sound judgment in decision-making.
  • High-level people management and leadership skills, with a focus on building trust, encouraging collaboration, and developing high performing partnerships.
  • Sophisticated planning, organisational, and analytical skills, with resilience and the ability to manage changing priorities and workloads independently.
  • Outstanding communication, presentation, and ethical standards, combined with a proactive, self-motivated approach to driving solutions and achieving results.
