The team is part of a world class tax department that provides, tax planning, transfer pricing, tax reporting, and tax audit defense for the company, and works closely with the Tax, Finance, and business teams in the United States, Europe, and around the world to ensure compliance with tax rules and regulations worldwide.In this leadership role, the Director, International Tax will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and implementing effective tax planning related to international business transactions, supply chain optimization, internal restructurings, and other projects. In this hands-on business partner role, the Director will closely collaborate with Finance, Treasury, Accounting, and other business functions to oversee development and implementation of the Company’s international tax strategy, lead the Company’s response to international tax audits, ensure compliance with applicable tax rules and regulations, and oversee external advisors. The Director will also work closely with Amgen’s Tax Reporting and Finance functions to ensure that business transactions and results, as well as tax planning projects, are properly reflected in Amgen’s financial reporting and global tax returns.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Lead cross-functional teams to identify, evaluate, and implement effective international tax planning strategiesDevelop relationships and collaborate closely with Amgen’s business, including Finance, Accounting, Treasury, HR, Law, and Supply Chain, in order to provide tax advice to aid the company’s business decisionsMonitor and analyze local, regional, and global tax law changes and other tax developments and risks and proactively lead changes to Amgen’s processesLead the Company’s response to international tax auditsProvide tax advice to support Amgen’s growing international business footprintPartner with local and regional Finance and Tax Reporting to ensure compliance with Amgen’s international tax reporting and tax return obligationsIdeate and implement improvements to international tax and transfer compliance and reporting processesManage and develop the international tax planning team to deliver resultsRegularly communicate with stakeholders across the Finance and Business organizations regarding relevant international tax issuesResearch, analyze, and interpret relevant tax statutes and regulationsAmgen has a large international footprint and does business in over 100 countries. As a global biopharmaceutical company with over $25 billion in revenue, the Company’s tax matters include mergers and acquisitions, collaboration and licensing transactions, research and development activities, complex supply chain and manufacturing issues, commercial operations, and financing transactions, among others.Preferred Qualifications12+ years of experience in international tax planning with a Big Four Accounting firm, large law firm, and/or the tax department of a multinational corporationCPA, law degree, Master of Business Tax, or equivalentExperience working with tax issues common to the international operations of U.S.-based multinational companies that own high-value intangibles and have complex supply chains, including the U.S. taxation of international transactions and operations (including GILTI, FDII, BEAT, FTCs, sec. 482, and sec. 163(j)).Demonstrated leadership of international compliance and reporting processes, including the development and stand-up of improvements and significant changesUnderstanding of GAAP accounting for income taxesStrong project management skills, including experience leading significant cross-functional tax planning projects and managing associated third-party advisorsExcellent written and oral communication skillsExcellent critical thinking skillsStrong interpersonal skills critical to a team-oriented organizationAbility to work in a fast-paced environment.
