ABOUT THE BRANCHThe Chief Financial Officer Branch (CFOB) provides high-quality and timely financial information to assist strategic decision making and drive improved organisational performance supporting the Department achieve its goals.CFOB develops and oversees execution of a clear, concise, and executable long-term financial strategy for the department. The Branch consists of six sections:

  • External budgets
  • Internal budgets and reporting
  • Finance business partners
  • Procurement and contracting
  • Financial accounting and reporting, and
  • Financial governance and operations

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITYThe Director of the Internal Budgets, Systems and Reporting team is a leader within the CFO branch, intrusted with the stewardship of the Department’s internal budget allocations, capital allocations and financial position. This position demands a forward-thinking leader with a deep understanding of finance and strategy, a strong ability to drive transformation and build financial capability across the Department. Shaping the financial systems and practices, you will support the Department to achieve its strategic goals and priorities.Duties of the role include but limited to:

  • Exercising strong leadership and direction of a high-performing team in the delivery of financial and budget deliverables, managing business issues, monthly and annual management and/or financial reporting requirements, budgets and costings, business activity reporting and analytics, developing and coordinating Cabinet Submissions and, developing improvements to financial systems and processes.
  • Providing clear and concise strategic advice and reporting to internal and external stakeholders on matters relating to budget and financial management, financial policy, financial systems and processes.
  • Overseeing the management of core financial systems, proactively identifying and influencing the implementation of process and system improvements.
  • Maintaining strong communication channels with relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of CFO Branch outcomes.
  • Supervising, developing and coaching staff, including the provision of clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards, managing performance and delegating responsibility.
  • Engaging and influencing senior leadership by explaining complex information, translating financial systems management initiatives into operational goals. Create a shared sense of purpose to enable implementation.
