You’ll collaborate closely with various departments, overseeing budgeting processes and providing insights on resource allocation and grant management. Your mornings will often involve preparing for audits and ensuring compliance with financial regulations, while afternoons may be dedicated to strategic planning sessions aimed at solving fiscal challenges. Engaging with team members to foster a culture of collaboration and empathy will be essential as you guide the financial team toward excellence. You can expect a typical workweek from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, providing a structured yet dynamic environment that encourages innovative problem-solving and continuous improvement in the nonprofit finance realm.Would you be a great Director, Budgeting & Financial Compliance?To thrive as the Director of Budgeting & Financial Compliance at United Way for Southeastern Michigan, you will need a comprehensive skill set. A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration, with a master’s degree preferred, is essential, alongside a minimum of five years of experience in finance or general accounting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with financial management tools will be critical as you initiate and manage the annual budgeting process and lead forecasting for strategic planning. Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail will enable you to prepare accurate financial and operating reports for senior management and the Board of Directors.Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are necessary for presenting findings to the Finance Committee and guiding VPs and managers. A self-starter attitude, customer service focus, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment will further enhance your success in this role. Experience with state and federal grants, along with a thorough understanding of compliance requirements, will be invaluable in overseeing grant accounting and ensuring fiscal integrity.Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
