Job description: Our client, Foster Plastics Industries (QLD) Pty Ltd is Australia’s most versatile Extrusion Company, with in- house Tool room. The company specialises in the manufacture of glazing gaskets, seals and profiles used in windows, shower screens, garage doors and wardrobe industries. Other areas of expertise include profile extrusions used in the Automotive & Marine, Shop fittings, Caravans, Flooring Accessories, and Solar Tube pool heating Industries.
In this position the objective is to ensure the efficient design, development, and optimization of extrusion tooling and equipment to support the production process.
Your goal is to contribute to the enhancement of machinery, automation, and tooling design while maintaining a focus on quality, efficiency, and safety standards.
Responsibilities include:
Design and Development:

  • Collaborate with product development teams to understand project requirements.
  • Conceptualize, design, and optimize extrusion tooling and dies.
  • Generate detailed technical documentation, including drawings, models, and

specifications.

  • Conduct feasibility studies, including cost analysis and risk assessment.
  • Lead design reviews and cross-functional meetings to solicit feedback.

Testing, Validation, and Simulation:

  • Test and validate extrusion tooling prototypes using simulation software, physical testing,

and data analysis.

  • Predict material flow, temperature distribution, and pressure profiles within the extrusion

system.

  • Optimize process parameters and tooling designs based on simulation results.
  • Validate simulation predictions through comparison with physical testing and empirical

data.

  • Incorporate simulation insights into the design and development of extrusion tooling and

dies.
Improving Machinery, Automation, and Equipment Design/Fabrication:

  • Identify opportunities for improving machinery, automation systems, and equipment

design to enhance production efficiency and flexibility.

  • Evaluate existing equipment and processes to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
  • Develop and implement strategies for integrating automation into extrusion processes.
  • Design, fabricate, and maintain equipment for extrusion processes.
  • Fabricate and assemble equipment components.
  • Develop maintenance plans and schedules for equipment.
  • Perform regular maintenance and repairs on equipment to ensure optimal performance.

Maintenance, Troubleshooting, and Assisting in Production:

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for equipment and tooling.
  • Coordinate with maintenance technicians and operators to troubleshoot and resolve

tooling-related issues.

  • Implement corrective actions to minimize disruptions and defects.
  • Provide technical support during setup, operation, and maintenance of extrusion

equipment.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to tooling and dies.
  • Collaborate with production teams to optimize process parameters for efficiency and

quality.

  • Assist in training production staff on proper use and maintenance of extrusion equipment.

Tool Making:

  • Design and fabricate tooling components such as dies, molds, and calibrators.
  • Utilize machining and fabrication techniques to produce precision tooling.
  • Program tool making equipment for manufacturing tooling components with precision and
