The Ministry is recruiting for an exceptional individual to take up the role of Deputy Chief Science Advisor. The role is based in the Evidence, Research and Innovation Directorate which provides key data, analytics, modelling, science, research and health economics advice to the Director-General, the wider Ministry and health sector partners.Ko ake mahi – What you’ll doAs the Deputy Chief Science Advisor, you will work closely with the Chief Science Advisor to provide strategic scientific support, influence, leadership, and direction across the directorate, wider Ministry, and other government agencies.You will lead your team on programmes of work within the Directorate and Ministry to deliver the Government’s and Ministry priorities and objectives. The team comprises of 4 direct reports (Principal Advisors) who are fully embedded in the Directorate with the ability to work independently as required but also as a team for larger projects.Across the Ministry you will have the responsibility of ensuring joint work programmes remain aligned, as well sitting on relevant steering groups. Externally you will represent the CSA as appropriate and take delegated responsibility for some elements of work including sitting on cross agency officials’ groups and deputising for the CSA at the monthly CSA Forum meetings.Ko pūkenga – What you’ll bring
- A postgraduate qualification in science or health is required and experience with the machinery of government would be an advantage.
- A strong record of delivering evidence-based material to a variety of senior audiences
- Exceptional written skills
- The ability to communicate complex issues to colleagues, health professionals and the wider public
- Exceptional team leadership and management is required to support this high functioning team
- Skills and knowledge that cross science disciplines, including social science, qualitative research and implementation science.
