As a member of our Infrastructure and Operations team, you will work with teams across our organisation who develop and operate infrastructure supporting our online payment product offerings.Location: Dublin (Hybrid)What you will be doingYou will conceptualise the future direction of the database environment across multiple platforms managed by European I&O, evaluating their current state, and working towards optimisation and efficiency. You will also lead complex and engaging database projects and implement clever solutions to core business needs.What You’ll DoAct as the technical lead for the European I&O Database team; building out the technical roadmap for the database platforms.Design robust and scalable database solutions that align with the organizations data strategy, business goals and to solve operational issuesEnsuring database platforms align with best practices in internal and external security and complianceLead and collaborate with with cross functional teams (including developers, infrastructure and networks engineers) to ensure the successful implementation of database solutionsProvide mentorship and guidance to more junior team membersActs as an escalation point for critical tickets and service-affecting issues confidently taking control of situations and leading to a successful resolutionTroubleshoot complex database issues and provide timely resolutions, ensuring a great customer experienceServe as a critical resource on project work, contributing to the design and supervision of the implementation phase of projectSeek out areas for improvement and use your initiative to design and implement creative and scalable solutionsWho You AreStrong knowledge of database management systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL and MySQLA minimum of 7 years industry experienceFamiliarity with cloud-based databases such as Google Cloud SQL, Amazon RDS, Azure SQL would be beneficialExperience troubleshooting using Wait Statistics, PerfMon, Extended events and Query StoreAbility to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively with stakeholdersStrong experience working within 24/7/365 business-critical systemsStrong expertise in SQL Server (2016 – 2022) administration, performance tuning, troubleshooting and high-availability configurationsProficiency in T-SQL, stored procedures, indexing strategies, and query optimizationKnowledge of PowerShell or Perl, automation, and scripting to streamline DBA tasksSecurity experience with prior exposure to working in a PCI Compliant environmentExperience working with key operational processes such as Change Management, Lifecycle Management, Patch Management, etcWho You AreAnalytical and solution-oriented approach to diagnosing and resolving database challenges with a problem-solving mindsetHigh standards for accuracy, security, and performance optimizationA drive to proactively identify and implement improvements in database operationsAbility to effectively convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholdersWorks well across departments, aligning database strategies with business objectivesKeeps up-to-date with emerging database technologies and best practices with a passion for technologyAbility to think about the impact of actions on internal and external customersComputer Science or similar third-level qualificationGlobal Payments Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
