MIDDAY ON MONDAY, 3 FEBRUARY 2025The Ecoinformatics Unit manages and makes available the digital biodiversity assets of Biodiversity and Conservation Science. The unit compiles and maintains corporate databases and business systems. The unit collaborates on projects involving complex information management and analysis, such as identifying broad-scale patterns of plant biodiversity. The unit represents Biodiversity and Conservation Science on various forums that have a significant information management (IM) focus, and provides advice on a range of strategic IM issues. The Ecoinformatics Unit collaborates with various organisations in co-developing ecoinformatics tools and data hosting.We currently have an opportunity for a Database and System Developer to join our team.This position is responsible for the development, integration and customisation of information systems and database solutions to support Biodiversity and Conservation Science business functions. This involves collaborating with stakeholders to gather requirements, estimating work content and planned timelines, communicating proposed designs and progressing solutions.The role requires an ability to clearly understand business pain points and to develop and implement solutions that leverage new approaches to system design and functionality.At the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), we have adopted which provides a common understanding of the mindsets and expected behaviours required of all our employees and the public sector. In this role, you will demonstrate to help drive positive change.Selection CriteriaApplicants should address the following four (4) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than three (3) pages in total. * Considerable experience in backend development of information technology system functionality and databases, with highly developed skills in at least one backend language (Python is preferred).

  • Considerable experience in front-end development of web-based platforms, with highly developed skills in a range of frontend languages, including but not limited to TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
  • Experience in one or more of the following technologies, frameworks and processes used within the department: Django, Drupal, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure and/or DevOps processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to meet evolving business needs.
