This proximity to taiao (nature) plays a key role in Wellingtonians excellent quality of life and great experiences, and we believe this helps us to be happy, healthy and well.Ask anyone within our Parks, Sport and Recreation business unit why they love doing what they do, their responses will be varied but the message is the same – they create valued experiences that grow healthy communities and healthy environments, our team is a fun and rewarding place to work.Joining our GIS and Asset Management team, we’re looking for a detail-driven and technically skilled Data Management Officer to support our wider Parks, Sport and Recreation (PSR) team in delivering top-quality data analysis, reporting, and asset information management.In this role, you’ll be instrumental in shaping how we plan, maintain, and improve community spaces ensuring decisions are based on accurate, insightful, and accessible data. You’ll work across council systems including TechnologyOne and ESRI GIS platforms, enabling data-driven asset lifecycle planning.Āu ake mahi | What you’ll doAsset Data Capture & Maintenance

  • Collect, update, and manage accurate PSR asset data in TechnologyOne and ESRI GIS suite.
  • Ensure asset data accurately reflects attributes like location, condition, and dimensions.
  • Integrate data from contractors and field reports to maintain a current and complete asset register.

Information Assurance & System Management

  • Act as a subject matter expert on asset data structure, standards, and processes.
  • Maintain alignment with ISO 55001 asset management principles.
  • Conduct data quality audits, contribute to governance documentation, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with GIS and IT teams to ensure systems are synchronized and evolving.

Asset Insights & Reporting

  • Develop reports, dashboards, and analytics to support asset planning, risk assessment, and maintenance prioritisation.
  • Provide data inputs for Asset Management Plans and renewal programmes.
  • Use data to identify asset risks and defects and assist in setting maintenance priorities.

Innovation & Improvement

  • Champion innovative methods for data collection and analysis.
  • Contribute to long-term asset strategies by designing smarter data processes and tools.

Stakeholder Engagement & Support

  • Work across teams to ensure asset data is used effectively and strategically.
  • Train kaimahi and contractors on data capture tools and asset information usage.
  • Respond to public and internal enquiries with professionalism and a focus on service excellence.

As part of the role, you’ll be conducting field-based condition assessments of PSR assets, spending approximately 25% of your time on-site to inspect and report on the condition of infrastructure and amenities managed by the PSR team.Ngā tohu me ngā wheako | Qualifications and experienceTo thrive in this role, you’ll need:

  • A tertiary qualification in Information Management, IT, or a related field or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Proficiency with asset management systems (e.g. TechnologyOne) and ESRI GIS platforms.
  • Experience in manipulating and transforming data via FME.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and experience in spatial data capture and analysis.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and a passion for using data to drive better decisions.
  • A full, clean New Zealand Driver’s Licence.
