Join our team as a leader responsible for guiding the development and implementation of strategic land use and development plans, managing a high-performing team, and ensuring sustainable and effective planning outcomes for the City of Greater Geelong. This is a permanent full-time opportunity.Work type: Permanent Full Time
Classification: SPL – $144, 271 pa plus superKey responsibilities include:

• Develop and communicate a clear vision, set goals, and lead the department toward achieving strategic objectives.
• Build departmental capabilities, foster an inclusive, customer-focused culture, and provide operational leadership.
• Lead change initiatives, promote cross-functional collaboration, and manage a team of leaders and professionals for success.
• Oversee resources, budget planning, and performance tracking, ensuring adherence to policies and governance mechanisms.
• Foster continuous improvement, risk management, and quality outcomes to deliver excellent service to customers and the community.
• Engage stakeholders, provide expert advice, manage contracts, and represent the Council in planning matters and hearings.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in Urban Planning or relevant specialist field and demonstrated senior leadership experience to foster a productive team culture.Essential Experience:

• Accomplished negotiation, writing, presentation and public speaking skills to influence stakeholders and achieve support for department outcomes.
• Well-developed problem solving and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build cooperation and partnerships.
• Demonstrated skills in business planning and management, budget development, financial and resource management, and complex reporting in accordance with strategic goals and KPIs.
• Demonstrated project management experience with the ability to lead small to medium sized projects to quality outputs, within tight deadlines and budget.
• Working with Children Check.
• Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
