We also take care of all the marketing and outreach, helping connect you with our vast pool of aspiring student drivers.   • A competitive hourly starting rate of $35.00 (in-vehicle instruction time), with the potential to increase earnings up to an additional $7.00 per hour from bonuses.
  • Additional $1.00 per hour with the use of a Luxury or Hybrid vehicle (Luxury vehicle as defined by J.D Power & Associates).
  • A fuel subsidy paid as an additional hourly amount on top of your hourly rate (This rate fluctuates based on fuel prices).

WHAT YOU’LL DO AS AN INSTRUCTOR:

  • Report to the Field Manager, Driver Education.
  • Provide quality vehicle instruction to students, following AMA’s instruction requirements and customer service standards.
  • Provide constructive feedback on student drivers’ abilities, helping them develop the confidence and skills necessary to become licensed, safe drivers for life.
  • Be responsible for student scheduling and submission of daily paperwork.
  • Follow Alberta Transportation guidelines and policies for driving instructors.
  • Be available after school, evenings and weekends, to meet students’ scheduling needs.

OUR PROCESS:Step 1 – Apply online to show your interest. We encourage you to include a cover letter describing your interest in this career, your passion for specific aspects of the position, and any relatable experience that will help you succeed. Our Talent Scouts will review your submission then start the formal recruitment process.Step 2 – Successful candidates will then receive paid training to become licensed driving instructors. This includes four classroom (in-person or virtual) instruction sessions; 20 hours of hands-on training with a Senior Instructor using an AMA vehicle; practice exams and all self-study training materials.Step 3 – After training is complete, we’ll mutually determine your readiness for the written and practical examination to acquire your Provincial Vehicle Instructor licence from Alberta Transportation.Step 4 – Once you’ve acquired your licence, we’ll help you get started with setting up your small business. This is when you’ll need the following:

  • A vehicle that’s no more than six years old. It must also be updated with the required brakes, mirrors, removable roof signs, and door magnets. The latter two are provided for free by AMA, while the brakes and mirrors cost $456.78 (including tax). Should you decide to end your contract, we’ll buy them back!
  • The required SEF 6D Endorsement insurance coverage for driving instructors. AMA Insurance can provide this for our instructors at an estimated $545.00 per year (subject to a review of your personal insurance and driving history).
  • To set up a small business through our registry (incorporation) at an estimated cost of $550.00.

Step 5 – Finally, you’ll train on our internal systems to get comfortable scheduling lessons, communicating progress with students and their parents, completing payroll, and using our training material.SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS:

  • You have your Provincial Vehicle Instructor licence from Alberta Transportation. (Don’t worry, training will be provided to suitable candidates who don’t have this certification.)
  • You have a clean driver’s abstract.
  • You own a vehicle that is no more than six years old.
  • You can cover required start-up costs after completing training and acquiring your instructor licence (vehicle add-ons, SEF 6D Endorsement insurance, and incorporating).
  • Please note – being incorporated will be required upon hire and obtaining a WCB number will be required upon completion of training.
