Job description: Job Summary:The Service Transformation Consultant will play a key role in supporting strategic planning, operational efficiency, and financial stewardship across IT and business functions. This role requires a strong analytical mindset and focuses on optimizing technical services and financial resources. Responsibilities include technology evaluation, contract review, grant support, budget analysis, and communication of operational guidelines. The consultant will leverage expertise in cloud services, business intelligence, and data visualization to improve financial performance and drive digital transformation initiatives.Location: Alberta, CanadaResponsibilities:– Research and evaluate latest technology trends to determine ideal hardware/software/application options.
– Document technical recommendations and provide guidance to various teams.
– Evaluate current services, recommend remedial actions, and collaborate on development and support paths.
– Review services and technology, assessing their operational impact and recommending cost savings.
– Analyze contract spend and develop budget justifications.
– Prepare optimized contractual spend plans.
– Create and maintain zero-based budgeting reports.
– Communicate operational guidelines and policies to clients.
– Apply and interpret how operational guidelines enhance departmental processes.
– Assist in developing project plans, schedules, and estimates.
– Make recommendations to project teams regarding issues, risks, and client satisfaction.
– Ensure change management processes are followed.
– Provide tracking and reporting of time and status on all work.
– Support grants-related data collection and perform outcomes analysis.
– Developing and releasing RFPs, NFRPs, RFQs, RFIs, negotiations, evaluation, supplier feedback, and contract execution.
– Implementing IT solutions across multiple teams or organizations.
– Working with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and align design to product vision.
– Identifying efficiencies through common services, reusable components, and APIs.
– Contributing to the overall architecture practice designing and implementing APIs and system integrations.
– IT infrastructure support and troubleshooting.Required Skills & Certifications:– Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
– 5+ years’ experience in IT roles supporting enterprise-level finance, budgeting, or contract management environments, including at least 3 years in a lead or senior technical role.
– Experience coordinating with business, IT partners, and subject matter experts to gather and analyze client business requirements and recommend solutions.
– Experience developing and maintaining positive relationships across the organization, including executive level.
– Experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and ability to leverage them for scalable and resilient architectures.
– Deep understanding of business intelligence/data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau), data warehousing, data modeling, and experience with scripting or automation (Python, PowerShell, ETL tools).
– Strong knowledge of APIs, middleware, and system interoperability standards (JSON, XML, REST/SOAP, etc.).
– Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), platform migrations, and SaaS financial applications.
– Demonstrated success in designing and executing system integrations across finance, procurement, and analytics platforms-ideally in support of Zero-Based Budgeting initiatives.
– Direct experience leading technical delivery or digital transformation projects within a finance or procurement context.
– Expert-level skills in architecture, configuration, and optimization of financial planning and contract management systems.
– Experience with process automation, workflow management, and supporting digital adoption initiatives.
– Ability to lead complex technical projects, including requirements gathering, solution design, system integration, user acceptance testing, and change management.
– Experience mentoring, training, and supporting IT and business teams in the adoption of new digital tools and best practices.
– Strong understanding of finance, procurement, and contract operations within large organizations or government contexts, including regulatory and data stewardship challenges.
– Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements, ensuring IT solutions drive measurable business outcomes.
– Exceptional communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
– Proven track record of cross-functional collaboration.Preferred Skills & Certifications:– Active Certification in Azure Fundamentals and AWS, and/or GCP.
– Experience creating data visualizations, dashboards using BI/analytics software (SAS Visual Analytics, SAS Visual Investigator, MS Power BI, Tableau, Looker, R, Python).
– Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure, AWS Solutions Architect, Oracle Certified Professional, PMP, ITIL).Special Considerations:– Hybrid work model (3 days/week in office).
– 6-month contract with possibility of extension.Scheduling:– Hybrid schedule, 3 days per week in the office. Specific days/times likely to be determined in consultation with the hiring manager.
