As part of the 2026 Census of Population and Housing, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking to recruit Homeless Enumeration Managers.These are temporary positions (from August 2025 to October 2026) at the APS 6 classification level. Positions are available in Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin, Perth and Sydney. Canberra may be considered.About the business areaThe Inclusive Strategies and Engagement Section within Census designs a range of approaches for specific population groups who face barriers and challenges to participating in the Census. This is to ensure that everyone who is in Australia on Census night is counted. We are responsible for the initiatives, supports and specialist temporary field staff that will engage with relevant communities and service providers to ensure that these groups participate in the Census.We have an important role in ensuring the Australian community has a positive and inclusive experience.The Homelessness Enumeration Strategy is one of the Inclusive Strategies teams. About the roleAs a state or territory Homelessness Enumeration Manager you will play a vital role in ensuring that people experiencing homelessness can participate in the Census. Through your efforts, you will contribute to the collection of accurate data that informs policies and services designed to support people experiencing homelessness. About the CensusThe Census of Population and Housing (Census) is run every five years and is one of the largest and important collections to count the number of people and houses in Australia. The Census collects information about where we live, age, our culture, religion, income, education, living and housing arrangements. The information is used to make important decisions, such as government funding, input into policy-making and electoral boundaries. The Census team is committed to producing high quality estimates about people experiencing homelessness. The next Census will be held in August 2026.What we are looking for (selection criteria)The successful candidates will possess all, or most of the following:
