You’ll be part of a tight-knit, collaborative team that supports elected members and delivers key governance programmes.In this role, you’ll:

  • ensure the smooth running of the Governance & Engagement department by applying best business practices, improving democratic processes, and supporting health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives.
  • coordinate key activities like the Chairs’ Forum, member briefings, and workshops
  • assist with major governance programmes such as local board plans, elections, the annual budget, and quarterly reporting.

Because you’ll work closely with elected members and senior leaders, it’s important that you’re comfortable in political environments and can handle sensitive matters with professionalism and care.Find a copy of the position description:He kōrero mōu: About YouYou’re a confident communicator with a solid understanding of business operations and a genuine interest in local government. You’re comfortable navigating political environments, managing competing priorities, and supporting elected members with professionalism and care.You’re someone who:

  • Holds a diploma or degree in Business Management, Communications, or a related field
  • Has local government experience or a strong understanding of democratic processes
  • Is tech-savvy – confident using Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, spreadsheets, and governance platforms
  • Communicates clearly and respectfully, especially with elected members and senior leaders
  • Is solutions-focused, resilient, and able to adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Values cultural competency and is open to learning about te ao Māori and tikanga
