The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Business Development Manager to provide a critical role within the Offender Services and Reintegration division.About the Business UnitThe Offender Services and Reintegration division of Corrections Victoria (CV) is responsible for providing best practice interventions which aim to reduce the risk of reoffending including case management, education, training and employment, prison industries and rehabilitation and reintegration supports. The division contributes to a safer community by supporting a safe and humane corrections system that provides opportunities for rehabilitation, supports reintegration and works toward Aboriginal self-determination.Prison Industries operates over 65 individual industries across 13 sites to provide people in prison with a variety of employment, training and learning opportunities, while also aiming to deliver value for the public through goods and services provided to both private customers and internal customers – both prisons and government.About the RoleThe Business Development Manager is responsible for managing a Prison Industries customer / marketing portfolio as allocated for product categories or service activities.The customer base may be internal (government) and/or external (business, non-government) business. The role involves effective commercial business management of existing business operations and the identification, development and introduction of additional new products and/or business opportunities.The role is responsible for all relevant Prison Industry business processes and deliveries against the business plan and strategic priorities.Some of your duties will include:

  • Manage the assigned portfolio to achieve Prison Industries goals including delivery of category production and financial targets for existing business, and the introduction of any new or existing products as required.
  • Provide leadership and advice across Prison Industries in relation to all aspects of commercial business management, managing production workflow to meet volume, capacity and deadlines.
  • Utilise all systems and processes in place, contribute to the design of new systems and reporting as required, and use data analysis to monitor and manage the portfolio and ensure sound business decisions are made.

  • Demonstrated experience in the Timber industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of new products and production systems within an operating environment
  • Demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of ISO or other quality assurance systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with information technology systems including Microsoft Suite and Oracle.

Qualifications/requirements

  • Experience in timber work and management is desirable but not essential.
  • An appropriate tertiary qualification in Business Administration, Management or Marketing along with demonstrated experience in Sales, Business Development or Prison Industries is desirable.
