Job description: General:Job Title: Business Analyst – Corporate StrategyDivision: Corporate Strategy, General ManagementReports To: As per Beazley’s organisation chartKey Relationships: Corporate Strategy, Business Unit leaders, Acquisition Review Group (“ARG”), Executive Committee members, relevant Underwriters, Beazley Investments Limited Board, external advisors and lawyersJob Summary: To support the strategic growth initiatives through research, analysis and critical thinking as well the design of “objectives” for strategic partnerships and reporting to the leadership. To provide support to the Corporate Strategy Manager in evaluating acquisition opportunities, developing proposals, structuring deals and other corporate finance activities.Key Responsibilities:Strategic growth and partnerships

  • Support strategic initiatives by managing partnerships and driving growth efforts as needed.
  • As required, produce drafts of analytical / strategic papers for the underwriting committee, executive committee, and the Strategy and Performance Group
  • Research emerging risks, opportunities and strategies making recommendations to the Corporate Strategy Manager and the Head of Corporate Strategy
  • Help the Corporate Strategy Manager and the Head of Corporate Strategy identify potential strategic growth opportunities and partnerships and assist in the production of thought leadership discussion documents as and when appropriate
  • Work with business teams and the Corporate Strategy Manager on idea valuation, development and governance
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented strategies and initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and execution of corporate strategic plans

M&A activities

  • Act as an internal contact for origination ideas – assess potential targets against the Group’s acquisition criteria and develop proposals for review
  • Run initial appraisals of potential opportunities, including initial engagement, valuation and production of business cases
  • Maintain a database of acquisition opportunities; prioritise the origination pipeline; and develop a target engagement programme where appropriate
  • Dependent upon deal size, manage all or some aspects of the transaction through to completion, liaising with internal and external stakeholders and key committees, and (if required) assisting with the development of the operating model/integration plan
  • If required, support the on-going integration of completed transactions

Other corporate finance activities

  • Maintain M&A protocol and procedures documentation and the defence manual; keeping them up-to-date with reference to legal and regulatory change
  • Work with the Corporate Strategy Manager to refine the Group’s acquisition criteria and process
  • Manage minority investment portfolio and the governance of transactions associated with it

This may include, amongst others, Beazley’s underwriting control standards, Beazley’s claims control standards, other Beazley standards and customer relationship management.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as individually notified, either through your objectives or through the learning management system. These may include membership of any Beazley committees or working groups.

Personal Specification:Education & Qualifications

  • Accountancy qualification is advantageous but not required

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong commercial and financial acumen
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical and valuation skills with attention to detail
  • Self-starter capable of working as part of a team or independently
  • The ability to manage time, meet deadlines and prioritise
  • Confident in managing a broad range of stakeholders both internally (review bodies, underwriters etc) and externally (corporate advisers, legal advisers, accountants etc)

Knowledge & Experience

  • Good understanding of the insurance industry; London market knowledge preferable
  • Demonstrated experience in research, analysis and financial modelling
  • Demonstrated experience in customer value analysis and product research/development
  • Track record of successfully managing complex projects/transactions through to completion
  • Capable of scoping, coordinating and implementing due diligence for potential transactions
