Job description: The Laboratories of Regenerative and Muscle Biology (Prof. Ori Bar-Nur) and Nutrition and Metabolic Epigenetics (Prof. Ferdinand von Meyenn) at ETH Zurich, in collaboration with the Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ), offer a joint position for a bioinformatician to work on omics data.Project backgroundThe Laboratory of Regenerative and Movement Biology (RMB) is a multidisciplinary and interactive group of scientists focused on translating basic research findings into therapeutically applicable treatments. The lab operates at the intersection of molecular and cellular biology, cell-based therapies, and tissue engineering.The Laboratory of Nutrition and Metabolic Epigenetics (NME) focuses on the relationship between nutrition, metabolism, and gene regulation.The Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ) is a joint core facility of ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich that applies the latest omics technologies for biomolecular research and personalized medicine. The FGCZ Genome Informatics group supports researchers with the analysis and interpretation of large-scale datasets, in particular next generation sequencing (NGS) data. The team covers raw data processing, high-performance computing, statistical evaluation, interpretation, and integrated analysis. The team runs an excellent open source based software environment and establishes state-of-the-art data analysis concepts and algorithms.Job descriptionThe bioinformatician will contribute to a wide range of basic and translational research projects in the RMB and NME labs. The role involves working closely with an international research team, requiring a high level of motivation, scientific curiosity, and a collaborative mindset. As a member of the FGCZ Genome Informatics group, the candidate will provide bioinformatics services to support ongoing projects. This includes performing data analyses using the group’s existing infrastructure, as well as developing and implementing additional analysis workflows. A particular focus will be on single-cell and spatial transcriptomics applications. Experience with research in these assays is highly desirable.Profile
- PhD degree in bioinformatics or a related field
- Proficient in NGS data analysis with excellent scripting skills
- In-depth knowledge of R/Bioconductor and/or Python
- Working experience with GNU/Linux operating system
- Enthusiastic about statistical and bioinformatics data analysis
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented approach
- Good understanding of biological research questions
- Service-oriented and adaptable to the evolving field of bioinformatics
- Advanced proficiency in English
