Join our team today!Job DescriptionThe Assistant Clinical Services Manager, Pharmacy, role will support the day-to-day operations and provide leadership to the pharmacist teams to employ best practices, effective communication and leading processes in delivering safe, competent and ethically patient centered and cost effective services using evidence-informed and stakeholder engagement approach. Respectful interactions and collaboration with team members and external stakeholders are core expectations of this role. This position will report to the Clinical Services Manager, Pharmacy, to ensure the clinical program goals and objectives are met in alignment with the corporate strategic plan.The Assistant Clinical Services Manager, Pharmacy, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy clinical services for all hospitals sites at Osler. This role includes, but is not limited to, supporting the management and oversight of clinical services and supports, department communications, human resources management, orientation, training and staff development, and policy and procedure development and implementation. The activities of this individual must facilitate the integration of systematic change that positively impacts the achievement of excellence in the provision of pharmaceutical care of patients.Working in close collaboration with the Clinical Services Manager, Pharmacy, and other members of the management team across the sites, the Assistant Clinical Services Manager, Pharmacy, develops and implements the delivery of efficient, safe and high quality clinical pharmacy services. They will ensure that these services reflect evidence-based, outcome-oriented best practices, a collaborative approach to patient-focused care within the profession and that practice meets standards of care and the needs of the patient. This position will also help support quality improvement initiatives within the pharmacy program. The position provides day-to-day leadership in the clinical pharmacy program and stands in for the Clinical Services Manager, Pharmacy, during absences.Accountabilities:
- Support the implementation of best/leading practices, quality documentation and accountability models
- Supports innovative, safe, effective and efficient medication systems in accordance with best medication management practices
- Ensures the regular review and updating of policies and procedures
- Monitors and responds in a timely manner to quality, safety, risk and other performance/outcome indicators
- Takes responsibility for departmental quality improvement initiatives and risk reduction strategies in conjunction with other pharmacy managers
- Supports the departmental quality improvement initiatives and risk reduction strategies in conjunction with other pharmacy managers
- Facilitate an inter-professional collaborative approach to care, recognizing and maximizing the unique contribution of each team member
- Promote and facilitate a safe and therapeutic environment in accordance with best practices for the provision of care
- Promote a professional environment with a focus on patient experience; responding to and addressing issues and or concerns identified by patients and families, internal and external stakeholders in a timely fashion
- Coordinate resolution of issues/concerns related to pharmacy clinical activities across the various programs in conjunction with the manager
- Work collaboratively with the Clinical Services Manager, Pharmacy, and various stakeholders; assess clinical and educational needs within the pharmacy program on an ongoing basis
- Demonstrating ability and experience in five leadership domains; engages others, leads self, achieves results
- Develops partnerships and leverage information-driven and goal-oriented processes in driving change and improvement
- Work collaboratively with the Clinical Services Manager, Pharmacy, shares accountability for achieving program targets, managing risk, improving quality and safety and advancing patient care outcomes under the direction of the program director
- Work collaboratively with the Clinical Services Manager, Pharmacy, and program director to identify gaps in processes, policies and procedures and support the sustainable delivery of excellent patient-centred care
- Facilitate huddles and chairs various team meetings under the direction of the Clinical Services Manager, Pharmacy, and attends other internal/external meetings as appropriate
- Acts as a professional liaison and a resource for medical staff, nursing staff, allied health professionals and discipline staff
- Coach, mentor, support, and facilitate the creation and maintenance of an environment that fosters Osler’s Values, creativity and professional judgment
- Ensures the development of profession specific strategic goals and objectives related to patient-focused care, education and other professional issues
- Ensure professional competence of pharmacists in accordance with patient care standards and the consistent provision of pharmaceutical care in all patient care areas including the co-ordination of cross coverage
- Cultivate effective inter-professional relationships at all levels
- Facilitate and motivate individuals to optimize performance to maximize scope of practice through the learning curve
- Create an environment that empowers individuals to take ownership and responsibility for their actions, promote staff initiative and nurture high morale and engagement
- Provide support to the Clinical Services Manager, Pharmacy, in the completion of performance evaluations
- Manage all staffing requirements cost-effectively in meeting the daily operational needs
- Identify issues and challenges; monitor trends requiring targeted interventions and change in practice patterns or processes
- Assist the Clinical Services Manager, Pharmacy, to monitor budget and explain variances to ensure cost effective resources
Qualifications
- Eligible for licensure in Ontario with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (Part A)
- Minimum two to three years recent related clinical and progressive leadership in acute care setting
- Minimum of five years clinical experience in hospital practice
- Prior leadership experience in complex, multi-site environments is an asset
- Post-graduate degree in management or clinical pharmacy practice an asset
- Hospital Pharmacy Residency Program certification an asset
- Collaborates and builds capacity across the organization, develops positive internal and external relationships in an atmosphere of trust with strong conflict resolution and critical thinking skills
