Join our team today!Job DescriptionThe Assistant Clinical Services Manager role will support the day-to-day operations and provide leadership in the operating room and Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to an inter-professional team to employ best practices and effective communication in delivering safe, competent and ethically patient centered care using an evidence-informed and stakeholders engagement approach. Respectful interactions and collaboration with patients and families are core expectations of this role. This position will report to the Clinical Services Manager (CSM) to ensure the program goals and objectives are met in alignment with the corporate strategic plan.Accountabilities:

  • Quality and safe patient care
  • Support the implementation of best/leading practices, quality documentation and accountability models
  • Facilitate an inter-professional collaborative approach to care, recognizing and maximizing the unique contribution of each team member
  • Monitor and respond in a timely manner to quality, safety, risk and other performance/outcome indicators
  • Promote and facilitate a safe and therapeutic environment in accordance with best practices for the provision of care
  • Promote patient and family inspired care
  • Respond to and address issues and or concerns identified by patients and families and internal and external stakeholders in a timely fashion
  • Coordinate resolution of issues/concerns/ related to operational activities across the program to ensure seamless leadership
  • Provide oversight in the development of the plan of care provided by the inter professional team with accountability for evaluation and point of care outcomes
  • Work collaboratively with the CSM and inter professional team members and assess clinical and educational needs within the operating room on an ongoing basis
  • Leadership and collaboration
  • Demonstrating ability and experience in five leadership domains: leads self, engages others, achieves results, develops partnerships and leverage information-driven and goal-oriented processes in driving change and improvement
  • Work collaboratively with the CSM, shares accountability for achieving program targets, managing risk, improving quality and safety and advancing patient care outcomes under the direction of the director of surgery
  • Works collaboratively with the clinical nurse educator, program leaders and the program team in reducing waste, adding value, raising standards, improving effectiveness and delivering high team performance
  • Supports agreed upon evaluation and outcome criteria to drive timely delivery of outputs, analysis of data, interpretation of data and provide feedback to the team on findings
  • Works collaboratively with the CSM and program director(s) to identify gaps in processes, policies and procedures and support the sustainable delivery of excellent patient inspired care
  • Facilitates huddles and chairs team meetings under the direction of the CSM and attends other internal/external meetings, as appropriate
  • People development and team building
  • Coach, mentor, support and facilitate the creation and maintenance of an environment that fosters creativity and professional judgment
  • Cultivate effective inter-professional relationships at all levels
  • Facilitate and motivate individuals to optimize performance to maximize scope of practice
  • Create an environment that empowers individuals to take ownership and responsibility for their actions, promote staff initiative and nurture high morale and engagement
  • Provide support to the CSM in the completion of performance evaluations
  • Exercise prudence and vigilance in assisting the CSM in effective attendance management practice e.g. identify attendance issues to CSM outside of process and procedures
  • Clinical resource utilization management
  • Manages all staffing requirements cost-effectively in meeting daily operational needs
  • Identifies issues and challenges, monitor trends requiring targeted interventions and change in practice patterns or processes
  • Provide cost containment through responsible staff utilization, for example, through the movement and assignment of staff required surgical suites based on acuity, volumes, as needed
  • Assists the CSM to monitor the service budget and explain variances to ensure cost effective resources
  • Provides value-added point of care resources to ensure and optimize safe and effective patient-centered care
  • Responsible for supporting the CSM with the completion of Kronos (time keeping, shift changes, payroll completion and approval, as well as scheduling)
  • Other duties may be required as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in nursing required
  • Current registration, and in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Minimum five years nursing experience in the operating room with the last 10 years required
  • Leadership experience as clinical manager and/or charge nurse role in perioperative services
  • Successful completion of Basic Life Support certification and CNO certification is required
  • Demonstrated effective communication, team building, problem solving and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated effective and innovative change leadership and judgment skills
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize quality, safety and risk-based frameworks to facilitate and build the use of critical thinking, priority setting and problem-solving skills across the team
  • Knowledge of the collective agreements and working experience in a unionized environment is preferred
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and documentation skills
  • Detail oriented with excellent organization and time management skills

Additional InformationDURATION: Approximately six (6) months or until the previous incumbent returns.Hours: Currently Days 8 (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)Annual Salary:
