To prepare for this growth, and to welcome more residents to our district, we have over $130 million worth of water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure projects to deliver over the next 10 years, including new treatment plants, reservoirs and reticulation renewals – it’s an exciting time to be part of Water Services at Waipa!About the RoleWill you be the next Asset Planning Engineer to join our Te Awamutu-based Water Services team? After a successful internal appointment to the same role, you will both be responsible for assisting in the creation and implementation of Three Waters strategies and planning. This activity is absolutely crucial in terms of ensuring our waters infrastructure is equipped to serve our communities now and for generations to come.The key responsibilities for this role are:

  • Support best practice Three Water asset management, provide technical advice on asset management practices and plans, ensure AMPs and other essential plans are in place and reviewed as necessary, obtain and accurately reflect data on the condition of Three Waters assets.
  • Liaise with Senior Asset Planning Engineer and Senior Stormwater Engineer for project identification and scoping, develop business cases and scope projects for the 10-year plan, review project delivery for compliance with programme and budget, manage water, wastewater, and stormwater models.
  • Provide technical advice on water services infrastructure planning and asset management, liaise with key stakeholders for AMP updates and reviews.
  • Participate in health and safety responsibilities, follow established work procedures and report hazards and accidents.
  • Contribute to Business Continuity Management and Civil Defence Emergency Management planning.
  • Support and model Waipā Values, promote a customer-first culture, take responsibility for professional development and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • a Tertiary (Level 6) qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or diploma/certificate level technical qualification plus equivalent level of learning through significant experience and/or working towards Apōpō Professional Practice Accreditation); and
  • at least five years’ experience in a civil and/or Three Waters engineering role.

Preference will be given to candidates who have:

  • project management experience
  • great communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively
  • a passion for doing the very best by the communities we serve

The ability to gain NZ Chartered Professional Engineer professional status or Apōpō Professional Practice Accreditation, if not already, is desirable.While the role is based out of our Te Awamutu office, some travel within the Waipā district may be required (at Council’s reasonable expense) to fulfil your duties.Depending upon experience, the gross annual salary range for this 40-hour per week role is $92,410 to $102,678.In return, we offer a fun and family-friendly, community-focused environment with plenty of opportunities to grow and develop.
