Want to join us?ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVEProvides support to the Health and Wellness Managers in all the retirement residences managed by Verve Senior Living, across Ontario, as directed. Consults with the National Director of Wellness in the development, implementation and evaluation of the health and wellness programs to ensure the standards, policies, and procedures support the vision of the company. This position supports, teaches and leads health and wellness team members deliver care to our residents that meets or exceeds standards, reflects resident choice, uses best practices and delivers service that meets or exceeds expectations and achieves our company vision.BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS

  • A registered nurse (RN or RPN) with a current provincial registration, in good standing, with a provincial regulatory body. Must have a minimum of five years experience in a supervisory role, preferably in the retirement home field.
  • Specific and extensive training in dementia care and behavioral management. Previous experience in the development, deployment and monitoring of dementia care required.
  • Fluency with respect to relevant standards and legislation for the retirement home sector.
  • Previous experience in training and developing team members.
  • Excellent communication skills in English required.
  • Must be proficient in Word and Excel.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluates, develops and implements initial orientation tools and processes to be used by the Health & Wellness Managers to assess resident health & wellness needs.
  • Assists, educates and evaluates the Verve/Diversicare signature programs relating to best practices for the care needs of our residents and the effectiveness of those programs to consistently deliver on our vision.
  • Works with and provides direction to the Health & Wellness Managers, ensuring standards and policies are met or exceeded.
  • Participates in the hiring process for Health & Wellness Managers. Supports the Health & Wellness Managers through the development of programs to on-board, orientate and train staff including instruction and other means of education.
  • In conjunction with the National Director of Wellness and the General Managers, provides input into performance reviews and/or development plans and may be required to participate in the review process as necessary.
  • Plans and assists Health & Wellness Managers in developing and maintaining department goals and objectives, compliance with best practices, company and provincial legislative standards.
  • Assists the National Director in the development of the health & wellness goals and objectives for moving the company’s health & wellness programs forward.
  • Assists health and wellness managers with established departmental goals and makes recommendations for policies and procedure updates and revisions. Monitors and evaluates Health & Wellness Manager’s compliance with corporate standards.
  • Maintains all required records and reports.
  • Assists in a consultative review of applicable Company manuals keeping departmental manuals up to date and recommending any changes.
  • Liaises and consults with peers and professionals in the community and industry to keep up to date with best practices and applying such knowledge to improve care and services to better meet the needs of the residents and department activities.

Committees

  • Attends and participates in regional health and wellness meetings four times per year.
  • Assists with agenda and minutes for regional meetings and sends to National Director of Wellness prior to circulation.
  • Participates on other committees as assigned.

Regulatory Standards

  • Provides input into preparation of responses to RHRA compliance reports for the health & wellness department for retirement residences.
  • Assists General Managers, and Health & Wellness Managers in preparation for accreditation or related surveys in accordance with applicable provincial standards and best practices, upon request.
  • Reviews health inspections related to health & wellness services and makes recommendations to ensure compliance, as applicable.

VQI

  • Participates in the Verve Quality Improvement (VQI) program and recommends VQI tools and procedures related to Health & Wellness Managers
  • Adopts best practices with respect to key responsibilities and ensures standards are continuously improved.

Purchasing

  • Reports to National Director of Wellness major equipment repairs and/or equipment purchases required for health & wellness.
  • Assists in maintaining record of suppliers for health & wellness programs and provides recommendations on service and prices to Regional Managers/General Managers/Health & Wellness Managers.
  • Makes recommendations on corporate contracts as they relate to health & wellness services.

Travel & Work Schedules

  • After discussions with the National Director of Wellness, monthly work schedules will be established to ensure that the majority of time is spent at ‘high opportunity’ communities, as determined by the National Operations Team (NOT) and the National Director of Wellness.
  • Must possess a current, valid, G-Class Ontario driver’s license and be willing to travel using own personal vehicle, with some overnight travel required.

General

  • Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System. This includes recognizing health and safety hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
  • Complies with all corporate policies and procedures.
  • Completes all required mandatory training/education.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the National Director of Wellness.
