The Role
This position supports the development of analytical products for Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG) through collecting, cleansing and analysing data from multiple sources, organising information, translating data and identifing trends using their WHS and analytics knowledge. This position will ensure the delivery of analytical reports that support the Deputy Secretary NSSG’s due diligence obligations.The position offers you the opportunity to work within a larger national WHS team of likeminded and dedicated WHS professionals. You will:

  • Have access to funding to support further academic, opportunities to upskill and professional memberships;
  • Identify and respond to stakeholders’ needs and expectations related to WHS matters to achieve outcomes;
  • Provide advice, collaborate and communicate with stakeholders on complex and sensitive WHS issues;
  • Apply relevant work health and safety legislation, Defence policies and procedures in the ships and other vessels maintenance environment; and
  • Recommend viable solutions and prevention strategies to address identified work health and safety issues.

About our Team
The NSSG Work Health Safety and Environment Team is located in Canberra. There is flexibility for the successful applicant to work remotely, including interstate.NSSG WHS is a challenging work environment that enables the WHSO to contribute to implementing strategic planning, governance and assurance activities. Our aim is to support the Navy and Defence Industry partners to efficiently deliver a safe, reliable and capable fleet on time, every time.This recruitment will establish a merit pool to fill the WHSO vacancy and any future WHSO vacant positions across NSSG.Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate is someone who has a keen professional interest in WHS, who has achieved professional qualifications / accreditations in WHS and who works collaboratively to pursue best practice. They must have:

  • Demonstrated strategic and analytical skills including the ability to interpret and synthesise information from a range of sources;
  • Good organisational skills and ability to adapt to evolving work priorities, including working independently and as a productive team member, meeting deadlines;
  • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to translate findings from data analysis to written reports, oral presentations or dashboards that me be delivered to senior executives;
  • Expertise with visualisation tools (such as excel and Power BI) including building and managing dashboards and reports; and
  • You must be able to demonstrate how you are the right person for the job by communicating clearly and concisely how your job history and experiences making you the right candidate for the role.

Expected salary: $95187 – 108734 per year
